    Given the financial nature of this position, this position has been defined as a position requiring a credit check. Prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a credit background check.

    SUMMARY:

    Provide leadership, strategy and planning for all internal audit activities across PNM Resources and its subsidiaries. Aligns internal audit plans with strategic objectives and with the enterprise risk management program to provide holistic solutions and policy proposals. Examines and analyzes accounting records to determine the financial status of the organization and prepares financial reports concerning operating procedures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for overall preparation and execution of a risk-based audit plan to assess, report on, and recommend improvements to the company's key operational and finance activities and testing of internal controls
    • Supports the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors in assessing the quality of financial reporting, effectiveness of internal controls, and the application of accounting principles
    • Assesses internal processes for determining and managing risk areas
    • Assist the business in driving continuous improvement in quality and execution by providing unbiased insight and recommendation to management, including value-added activities through operational or financial audits
    • Evaluates the independence, objectivity, and effectiveness of the external auditors. Coordinates direct assistance, if applicable, with external auditors, and serves as main liaison on SOX program with external auditors partners and senior managers
    • Supports the Management of the Company in suggesting improvement in operations and business processes through benchmarking and establishment of best practices. Promotes a culture of integrity through communication and collaboration with all internal and external stakeholders
    • Identifies control issues in early stages before they become problems
    • Improves the cycle time and the number of special projects undertaken by audit groups to serve their customers Improves the perceived value of audit to the Company
    • Mentors high performance professionals in preparation for taking key positions within the Company

    QUALIFICATIONS

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with seven to nine years related experience including four years of management experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
    • Master's degree preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    • CPA, CMA, CIA, or CFA preferred.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manages, directs, coaches, supports, delegates, and develops a diverse, high-performance group of professionals. Monitors and coordinates the work and performance of external accountants and auditors.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
    • Ability to write complex reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
    • Ability to solve complex practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    COMPUTER SKILLS:

    • Working knowledge of database software, inventory software, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Office environment.
    • Employees in Services Company may be responsible for providing services to various holding company subsidiaries and affiliates.
