Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. The Mental Health Educator (MHE), under the supervision of the Executive Director, is first and foremost, responsible for working towards fulfilling the organizations mission “to promote mental health and wellness through education, advocacy, service, and access to care.” The MHE will accomplish this through the implementation of evidence informed trainings, digital campaigns, and media efforts that target consumers and professionals across all stages of life.
This is an entry level position for those who meet the minimum requirements.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to MHAH’s mission (social work, public health, advocacy, justice, education, psychology, counseling, etc.). Lived or work experience, or a combination thereof, may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
Experience and familiarity in education, social services, community organizing, justice, advocacy, or mental health. Demonstrated commitment to and skills in collaboration, community relations, facilitation. Demonstrated commitment to social justice, policies of inclusion, and understanding and compassion for people living with mental health issues.
Moderate to advanced social media skills including video recording, editing, posting is ideal
The ability to learn a curriculum, then learn to effectively teach it is critical.
