    SUPERVISION: Directly by the Operations Manager. Indirectly by Senior Management, Managers and Coordinators Supervision of performance improvement, and In-service education aspects of the position may also come from the Education & CQI Coordinator and/or the Medical Director.
    EMPLOYEES SUPERVISED:
    All ambulance and wheelchair field operations staff on duty during the
    assigned shift and/or operational area.
    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
    Directly responsible for the actions of all ambulance/wheelchair operations staff on their assigned shifts and have discretionary authority, within the bounds of the law and Guardian Ambulance Service policies and procedures, to lead any on-duty operations personnel. The Operations Supervisor coordinates all phases of operations within their task area for Guardian Ambulance Service in cooperation with the Operations Manager. He / She must be familiar with local, state, federal laws, and regulations applicable to the operations of ambulance services. He / She maintains contacts with local and state agencies so as to foster cooperation and good public relations. He / She is responsible for the efficient operations of the company and is to ensure the highest possible quality of care, and safety of the patients being treated and transported by the crews’ providing services. The goal of the Operations Supervisor is to produce high - quality unit hours at a reasonable cost per unit hour, and to fulfill as closely as possible the coverage requirements of the Operations Manager. A “high quality unit hour” may be summarized as a clinically - competent, neat - appearing, well-motivated crew conducting themselves at all times in a safe, friendly, caring, and professional manner, while working with high quality, reliable, clean, and well-maintained equipment under the direction of the System Status Controller for one hour.
    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
    ➢ Coordinate and supervise the activities of any personnel assigned to them.
    ➢ Ensure that assigned personnel are fully informed of company policies, local procedures, and other information pertinent to operations.
    ➢ Review and act upon, as necessary, all incidents, accident, deviation/exception, and other reports forwarded from the field or Control Center. Checks reports for accuracy, completeness, and competence.
    ➢ Keep themselves apprised of events in the field affecting Guardian Ambulance Service, including accidents, injuries, breaches of policy, interagency relations, morale, newsworthy events, and superior/poor performance by field personnel.
    ➢ Respond to ambulance/wheelchair calls as needed. Routinely responds to ambulance calls where unusual or extraordinary circumstances exist.
    ➢ Ensure proper performance of vehicles and equipment by arranging repairs and preventative maintenance (in the absence of designated maintenance personnel).
    ➢ Attend meetings and maintain contacts with allied agencies at the direction of the Operations Manager, and/or Senior Management.
    ➢ Periodically inspect field personnel, quarters, and units to ensure conformity with Medshore Ambulance Service standards.
    ➢ Make work assignments with available personnel. Monitor and modify current schedule by staffing to meet the needs of the company.
    ➢ Work cooperatively with the SSC to ensure that problem or complicated calls are handled properly.
    ➢ Attend continuing education programs as needed and required.
    ➢ Assist the Human Resources and Education/CQI Coordinator in orientation and other continuing education programs.
    ➢ Participate in employee performance appraisals as directed.
    ➢ Perform corollary duties, within reason, at the direction of superiors.
    ➢ Give disciplinary action up to a Class II.
    ➢ Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and/or Senior Management
    PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED:
    1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 220 pounds (150 lb. patient and approximately 75 lb. stretcher) with assistance from one other qualified individual.
    2. Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds at waist high level and carry a distance of 100 yards.
    3. Must be able to lift and move a 75 lb. ambulance stretcher with the help of one qualified individual.
    4. Must be able to lift a 175 lb. patient (in various positions, i.e., while lying on the floor, the bed, in an automobile, etc.) with the help of one qualified individual onto a stretcher.
    5. Must be able to carry a monitor/defibrillator in one hand and an ALS trauma kit in the other for a distance of 100 yards.
    6. Due to the unpredictability of this type of organization, it is not always possible to guarantee meal and/or break periods. Therefore, this position must have no physical condition which would prohibit him/her from working 12 hours without a meal or break.
    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
    1. Must be adaptive to work in all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to, rain, snow, heat, etc.
    2. Due to the uncontrolled environment in the field of emergency medical services, he/she may be subjected to predisposing themselves to be at risk for:
    A. Bodily Harm
    B. Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and other Potentially Infectious Materials (OPIM).

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Must meet the minimum requirements of the Department of Transportation Physical Assessment/Fitness Requirements for Commercial Vehicle Operations:
    • Has no back problem, muscle problem, or other physical disability, which would not allow the lifting and carrying of heavy weight.
    • Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of epilepsy, rheumatic, arthritic, or orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease, or any other medical condition which may interfere with his ability to control and operate a motor vehicle and/or provide patient care.
    • Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.
    • No emotional, mental nervous, organic, or functional disorder likely to interfere with safe emergency driving or providing emergency care.
    • No impairment of use of foot, leg, hands, or arms or other structural defects or limitations likely to interfere with safe emergency driving or providing emergency care.
    2. Minimum of Three (3) year experience as ALS provider with the Company or Five (5) years progressive EMS management experience with another service. Associate degree may be used for Two (2) years Management experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
    3. Must be available for recall 24 hours a day for emergency situations. Must be at a designated phone number or able to be contacted by cell phone (provided by Guardian Ambulance Service). If you plan to be unreachable for more than 24 hours, you must notify the Operations Manager.
    7. Must be flexible in work schedule to meet the demands of the company.
    8. Must attend scheduled and called meetings.
    9. Must possess physical and mental fitness so as to set a good example.
    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Current South Carolina and/or Appropriate State Driver’s License
    2. Current South Carolina State and/or National Registered Certification as EMT/EMT-I/ Paramedic.
    3. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification- BCLS.
    4. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification -ACLS (Paramedic Only)
    5. Current Pediatric Life Support Certification -PALS (Paramedic Only)
