Breaker Technician

  • Job Responsibilities and Expectations:

    • Work on low & medium voltage circuit breakers, including GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE, etc.
    • Troubleshoot, rebuild, retrofit, test, and repair low, medium and high voltage switchgear to include the teardown and assembly of breakers, contactors and related switchgear and electrical apparatus, including:
    • High-voltage switchgear up to 3000A, SF-6 Vacuum Circuit Breakers ATS, 13.8kV, 60Hz and 11kV, 50H
    • Medium-voltage switchgear up to 3100A, Vacuum Circuit Breakers ATS, 34.5kV, 4.16kV, 60 Hz and 6/6kV, 50Hz
    • Low-voltage Switchgear up to 3000A, Air Circuit Breakers ATS, 480V, 60Hz and 400V, 50 Hz.
    • Project manage breaker-related jobs including mentoring and guiding other technicians and ensuring successful and timely completion of work scope.
    • Regularly travel overnight to jobs sites for onsite breaker testing and repair.

    Minimum Qualifications: to qualify for consideration, you must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements:

    • Requires a High School Diploma or GED; prefer electro-mechanical training from trade school, apprenticeship or armed services.
    • Must have a minimum of 8 years of 480 volt to 25KV circuit breaker experience.
    • Must have testing skills and understand fundamental electrical and mechanical testing procedures.
    • Must have knowledge of power systems, power circuit breakers and other switchgear apparatus.
    • Must have ability to correctly use tools and testing equipment including Megger, digital multimeter, Hi-Pot tester, Oil Dielectric strength tester, relay tester, primary & secondary injection set, cable fault detector, & oscilloscope.
    • Must be able to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
    • Previous project management experience a plus.
    • Experience at an OEM breaker manufacturer a plus.

    Requirements:

    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
    • Must be willing and able to work regular overtime including nights, weekends and some holidays.
    • Must be willing and able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town jobs for 1 to 3 weeks.
    • Must be able to life and maneuver up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations. Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
    • Must supply own toolbox with hand tools and measuring devices needed to work on industrial breakers
    • Mechanical knowledge experience: 3 years (required)
    • Rebuilding power Circuit breakers experience: 3 years (required)
