Nuclear Medicine Technologist

  • Position Summary:
    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) will coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation. The NMT will operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices and scintillation gamma cameras. The NMT will calibrate and draw up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients, formulate radiopharmaceutical materials, and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction. The NMT will calculate data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay, evaluate recorded images for technical quality, perform Nuclear Cardiology studies including image acquisition and process and monitor patient vital signs. The NMT will rotate through the on-call schedule and must be willing to report back to work during any emergency situation, this includes if needed during inclement weather, mass casualty, internal disaster, etc. The NMT will complete other duties as assigned.   

    Education:
    • Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology required.
    Experience:
    • Previous Nuclear Medicine experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred.
    Licensure/Certification/Registration:
    • Registered or Registry eligible by the ARRT (N) and/or by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).  If Registry eligible, such registration will be obtained within 18 months of hire.
    • Certified under the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

    • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with imaging colleagues, physicians, and department heads required.
    • Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.

    • Strong PC skills required.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
    •  Ability to consistently exercise independent judgement required.
    Working Conditions:
    • Occasional exposure to difficult patients.
    • Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring simultaneously.
    • Physical surroundings generally pleasant and comfortable.
    • Works near moving machinery.
    • Risk of radiation exposure and probable exposure to biohazardous materials
    • Temperature fluctuations occur frequently.
    • Prolonged standing and walking.
    Physical Requirements:
    Medium - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to hear to process instructions and safety code and alarms required.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and will be assessed by post offer Employee Health fit-for-duty review
