Nursing Director administers the nursing program in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility to maintain standards of patient care. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management.     The purpose of this position is to provide nursing management, set resident care standards for all direct care providers and provide complete supervision and management for the nursing department.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; currently licensed in the State of current employment. Bachelor of Science required-Master of Science in Nursing or Management preferred.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in long-term care and Management required.

    Ability to Direct and Manage the staff to assure that the seniors and others are provided the care and assistance they need and the independence they deserve. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and customers.

      • Assist with responsibility for the development of nursing service objectives and performance standards of nursing practice for each category of nursing personnel.
      • Assist with directing, evaluating and supervising all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
      • Assist with the assessing of resident pre-admission and/or admission information and determine appropriate level of care.
      • Assist with assuming responsibility for analysis of incident and accident investigation reports to determine cause(s) and implement corrective action(s), when appropriate.
      • Assess resident needs and make recommendations for special rehabilitation programs.
      • Evaluate resident care as related to individualized resident needs, family involvement and the physician’s plan of care for the resident.
      • Assume responsibility for nursing service compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
      • Participate in the planning and implementation of the nursing service budget.
      • Provides leadership by planning, developing, organizing and implementing nursing and clinical ancillary related policies, procedures and guidelines in compliance with required laws and regulations.
      • Reviews systems, procedures and methods to improve service provision.
      • Reviews incidents, accidents and other areas of risk to seek improvement leading to interventions and prevention of any negative outcomes or trends.
      • Maintains, coordinates and manages the overall facility QA program, including data collection, data management, tracking, trending, reporting, improvement initiatives and scheduling and organizing of QA program and committee.
      • Works closely with improvement consultants, reviews consultant reports and creates and implements strategies for improvement and prevention of negative outcomes.
      • Oversees, coordinates and ensures the completion of risk management facility-wide.
      • Conducts routine audits of medical records, systems, procedures and methods of practice.
      • Ensures facility and department policies, procedures, and guideline, as well as local and state regulations, are met and followed by everyone in the area.
      • Assists employees in utilizing appropriate techniques for effective assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of residents and their needs.
      • Implement and maintain the use of computer based programs including MyInnerview.
      • Monitor and analyze the facility QI/QM report and use as a tool for continued improvement.
      • Develop, implement and maintain programs to improve systems, procedures, inter-departmental communications and overall facility performance.
      • Work closely with the DON, Staff Development nurse and Unit Directors to achieve staff education, compliance with proper procedures and continual improvement.
      • Seek continuing education and stay informed and current with regulatory updates and changes, methods of risk management and continual improvement.
      • Monitors and maintains appropriate procedures and methods for compliant documentation.
      • Interacts courteously and appropriately with residents, family members, visitors, and other employees under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
      • Organizes and participates in facility committees as appropriate.
      • Protects and promotes resident rights; including confidentially, privacy, dignity, and freedom from abuse.
      • Assist in direct resident care as/when required.
      • Perform all other duties as assigned by Management.
    • Takes steps necessary to produce excellent work in any task or job that is assigned.
