Responsibilities : The
Career Preparation Specialist
is responsible for the successful implementation of student career preparation including oversight of the center Student Orientation Program and Occupational Exploration Program.
Assists students in adjusting to Center life with a significant emphasis on enhancing student retention by providing support, supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and by acting as a positive role model and mentor.
Ensures that student needs are met in a timely professional manner with the highest degree of customer service in mind.Prepares reports and forms and documents in CIS case notes and files observations of students behavior, performance, notable information or events, and progress towards achieving goals and objectives.
Maintains confidentiality, but reports significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff, and to ensure that required reporting occurs, and that students receive emergency services as needed.
Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, or emotional trauma.Meets individually with student assigned to their area responsibility at a minimum of once each month documenting the meetings in case notes.
Researches and develops curriculum to assist the center teams with positive retention rates, students ability to learn basic informational technology and job search skills.
Develops needs assessment of employment barriers and identifies potential transitional services that students may need for successful job placement and job retention.
Ensures students receive instruction addressing basic living skills.
Qualifications : Minimum :
Associates degree in human services or a closely related field. Current driver license.
Preferred :
Bachelors Degree or four years related professional work experience. One year experience in career development, workforce development, counseling, sales, marketing, or related field.
Two or more years experience in career development, workforce development, counseling, sales, marketing, or related field.
General Information :
In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, candidate must have regular attendance.
Knowledge Required :
Sound knowledge of case management, career counseling, employment counseling and job search, job preparation and development techniques.
Must be able to effectively communicate with culturally disadvantaged and minority youth. Must possess a valid state drivers license.
Excellent communication skill, both oral and written. Must obtain and maintain valid CPR / FA certification. Good organizational skills.
Ability to inspire and motivate students
