Orthopedic Technician applies and adjusts plaster casts and assembles and attaches orthopedic traction equipment and devices as directed by a physician. Sets up bed traction units or rigs special devices as required, and inspects and adjusts bandages and equipment. Being an Orthopedic Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, completion of Orthopedic Technician training and certification program. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Orthopedic Technician assists with direct patient care activities as directed by the Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Staff Physician. Perform a variety of orthopedic related activities including applying/removing dressings, applying/removing casts, and splints, assist with medical procedures as needed based on level of training and rooming of patients. Performs clerical and other duties as directed.
