PACS Administrator is responsible for the daily operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems. Oversees equipment maintenance and systems testing, upgrading, and installing. Being a PACS Administrator acts as a liaison between the Radiology department and customers. Maintains positive vendor relationship. Additionally, PACS Administrator requires a bachelor's degree. Requires a certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The PACS Administrator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Millcreek Community Hospital, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is currently hiring a Full Time PACS Administrator position to join out Information Technology Team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluate proposed solutions, review options and make recommendations. Ensure the design and integration of proposed systems, software, and hardware solutions leads to efficiency/workflow, patient safety and all security standards.
2. Point of escalation for Help Desk staff to support end users.
3. Monitors the PACS system’s hardware, software and performance characteristics and proactively addresses all issues including storage space, system performance and archiving/backup and recovery. Monitors all event logs.
4. Provides PACS maintenance and upgrade support and responsibility for the system. This includes coordinating all system maintenance activities (fixes, updates and new releases) and insures appropriate testing and implementation coordination.
5. Working with PACS vendor and I.T. management, implements backup and recovery processes. Runs and monitors these processes, insuring the integrity of the backups and the ability to recover from failure.
6. Works closely with the Radiology Department Manager to ensure cross coverage at the application level and all application level technical requirements are met.
7. Coordinates all wiring, server, addressing and network activity as it relates to PACS.
8. Works with the I.T. Applications Team to monitor the PACS interfaces to ensure they are functioning at all times. Develops monitoring procedures and downtime processes to keep the interface systems in sync with other systems within the organization.
9. Develops and supports the PACS security access controls at both the network and application level to support the IT centralized security policy.
10. Works with third-party vendors for upgrade maintenance and problem resolution.
11. Prepares and maintains documentation and procedures of systems to ensure intended use and continuity of program maintenance.
12. Develops training and continuing education programs for I.T. staff and systems users to support and utilize newly developed, modified, enhanced or converted systems.
13. Studies existing information processing to evaluate effectiveness and proposes new systems to improve efficiency/workflow and patient safety.
14. Adheres to all standards, policies, protocols, processes and procedures as defined by the I.T. department.
15. Participates in the department on-call rotation. Responsible for receiving, resolving or reporting issues to the parties responsible to resolve any issue during the rotation according to the I.T. on-call policy and procedure.
16. Provides emergency or backup on-call assistance in the event of systems failure or scheduled maintenance.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related degree, with relevant healthcare I.T. experience.
Minimum Experience: Three years recent experience in PACS administration.
Minimum Skills: Broad knowledge of PACS administration and management.
Experience with system planning, development and management of systems. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documentation. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
