Position Summary:
This is skilled work at the journeyman level in painting and finishing surfaces of buildings and other structures, fixtures, and equipment. Employees in this class are responsible for performing skilled painting tasks according to the standard practices of the trade. Work involves preparing various surfaces for painting and painting and finishing surfaces with paint, varnish, or other coating materials using a brush, roller, or spray gun.
Essential Functions:

Cleans surfaces to be painted through the use of sandpaper burners, scrapers, brushes, sanding machines and dusters

Mixes and matches paints to correspond with existing colors

Applies paint to the exterior and interior of buildings, furniture, and structural steel using a brush, roller, or spray gun and erects and removes scaffolding as necessary

Lines and paints gymnasium floors for a variety of physical education activities

Performs incidental tasks such as lining yards and playgrounds, frosting glass, and calcimining walls and ceilings

Erect scaffolding as needed

Perform related work as required

Must maintain a valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in erecting scaffolds

Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the painting trade

Ability to work at heights from scaffolding

Ability to observe safety precautions in carrying out assigned tasks

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Skill in the use of standard tools and materials of the painting trade
Experience:
-
Minimum of six years of journeyman-level interior and exterior painting experience including experience in glazing and the operation of airless and conventional spray equipment

Knowledge of the qualities and adaptabilities of various painting and finishing materials such as paints, varnishes, stains, shellac, lacquers, enamels, and solvents; and methods of preparing surfaces for finishing mixing materials to contain desired color and quality
Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle

Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body

Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
Working Conditions and Environment:

Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment

Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
