Park Naturalist plans, develops, and conducts programs to inform the public of historical, natural, and scientific features concerning national, state, or local parks. May require a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Park Naturalist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.   • The Naturalist assists with the design and implementation of education programs, workshops and activities for all ages at the Environmental Discovery Center (EDC). 
    Essential Functions
    • Teaches all aspects of standards-based environmental education programs to public, private and homeschool groups.
    • Greets groups and the general public visiting the EDC; disseminates information about park features, history, facilities and local areas of interest to park visitors.  
    •  Coordinates and implements environmental education programs and activities in classroom and outdoor settings for a wide range of audiences.
    • Responsible for feeding, handling and general care of the EDC’s live animal collection and displays.
    • Assists visitors with park reservations for overnight accommodations, canoes and kayaks, rental facilities, etc.
    • Prepares clear and comprehensive oral and written reports as well as exhibit design and set-up.
    • Performs light housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of the EDC.
    • Collects and accounts for revenue. Accurately completes and submits all required receipts and reports.
    • Properly secures the building upon opening and closing.
    • Works as needed on holidays, weekdays, weekends and/or evenings.

    Non-Essential Functions
    • Organizes and maintains environmental education supplies and materials.
    • Keeps abreast of environmental education.
    • Represents the Environmental Discovery Center and Lynches River County Park at community festivals and events.
    • Performs all other related duties as required.
    Qualifications
    • Associate’s degree or higher with emphasis in environmental interpretation, life science, or elementary or middle school education or an equivalency preferred. Experience in the field of Environmental Education/Interpretation desired.
    • Professional certification in interpretation, education, or similar field is preferred. 
    • Must be 18 years or older.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and computer operations. 
    • Requires a valid driver’s license. 
    • Must possess, or be able to obtain, First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
    • Must be comfortable presenting education programs to groups of varying sizes.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.   
    • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 30 lb. objects regularly.
    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • The employee must have the ability to travel up to 10%.
