Pathology Assistant under the supervision of a pathologist assists with preparing and dissecting surgical specimens. Prepares and selects tissue samples for analysis. Being a Pathology Assistant may record findings or sterilize equipment. Requires a bachelor's/master's degree from an accredited program. Additionally, Pathology Assistant may require certification as a pathologist assistant. Typically reports to a pathologist. To be a Pathology Assistant typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. The Laboratory Manager’s role is to coordinate, plan, and operationally integrate services between and within departments. The primary focus of this position will be managerial oversight of Histology, Cytology and other support functions for Anatomic Pathology and to also support clinical areas for specimen collection and specimen processing in the preanalytical phase of laboratory testing.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory or anatomic pathology sciences, chemistry, biology or related science to meet the CLIA qualifications for High Complexity Testing. Master’s degree preferred. Supervisory experience required. ASCP certification preferred.
