Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of payroll processing operations. Ensures accurate calculation of wages and processing of tax withholding and company deductions. Being a Payroll Supervisor prepares statistical reports on employee pay, commissions and bonuses; vacation, sick, disability and workers compensation leave; taxes, withholding, etc. Oversees the distribution of paychecks and direct deposit programs. Provides training to team on policies, regulations, and processes. Additionally, Payroll Supervisor assists team members with resolving errors or responding to inquiries. May be the first level escalation for complaints or complex error resolution. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Payroll Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for preparing and processing the company's multi-state biweekly payroll, as well as planning, coordinating, and managing all functions of the company's payroll process.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements
- Process payroll for employees using Paylocity or similar payroll software
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll and resolve any discrepancies
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management
- Handle inquiries from employees regarding payroll matters
- Assist with accounts receivable duties as needed
- Prepare journal entries related to payroll transactions
- Maintain employee records in the HRIS system, such as Paylocity or similar software
- Collaborate with the HR department to ensure accurate employee data in the payroll system
- Train and supervise payroll clerks, providing guidance and support as needed
Skills:
- Proficiency in analyzing complex payroll data
- Strong knowledge of payroll software
- Experience with general ledger reconciliation related to payroll
- Familiarity with accounts receivable processes
- Ability to prepare journal entries accurately and efficiently
- Knowledge of HRIS systems
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong understanding of financial concepts related to payroll processing
- Experience with Kronos or similar timekeeping systems is a plus
