    Job Summary and Qualifications

    Trident Medical Center, part of the HCA Healthcare system, is seeking to fill a part-time clinical Medical Physicist position in our ACR-accredited Radiation Oncology Department. The 0.7 FTE position has opened due to growth in the Cancer Center’s many programs. The ideal candidate should be a board certified physicist with 5 years of experience that would include ARIA, Eclipse, Oncentra HDR and Varian linacs, who is seeking a modestly-paced, well-balanced, part-time & on-site position in an ideally located part of the country.

    Radiation therapy at TMC is provided at a single hospital-based site in Charleston, SC which houses three Truebeam accelerators, a GE CT-SIM and an Elekta HDR unit. We typically treat 50-60 patients per day using all the acronyms – IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, HDR, SGRT, DIBH, etc. Our team consists of two full-time seasoned physicists, four physicians, three dosimetrists and an appropriate number of nurses and support staff. Current physics staff works a 4x10 week and you too will have the option of working a combination of 8 and 10 hour days.

    Physics equipment includes a wide array of primarily Sun Nuclear devices and the SUNCheck platform tying it all together for efficiency and consistency. Treatment planning is accomplished in ARIA/Eclipse 16.1 running on full-scale servers with a dedicated IT team based at HCA HQ. Additional planning enhancements include the use of various Radformation modules (Clearcheck, EZF, AutoContour), MIM Maestro and an extensive use of care paths, protocols and templates within the TPS.

    Primary Functions:

    • QA testing and calibration of all external beam therapy machines and afterloader-delivered radioactive sources in accordance with established guidelines and protocols.
    • Initial treatment plan checks to assure the accuracy, safety and efficacy of dose delivery. Recommend improvements to physicians and dosimetry when appropriate.
    • Continuing physics consultation to assure accurate delivery of treatments throughout the course of each patient’s care.
    • Physics support and consultation on simulation through final treatment.
    • Assist with and occasionally perform treatment planning (SRS) and image fusions.
    • Provide a physics resource to staff and physicians.
    • Implement new technologies and new treatment modalities.
    • Assure understanding of and adherence to all radiation safety procedures.
    • Demonstrate professional behavior/conduct in all interactions, and foster teamwork amongst staff.
    • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
    • Supervision of brachytherapy procedures
    • Serve on the hospital’s Radiation Safety Committee
    • Assure accordance to NRC/State regulations.

    Qualifications:

    • PhD or MS in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics
    • ABR Board Certification is required
    • Minimum 5 years of experience preferred
    • Experience with Varian preferred

    • Demonstrated skills in organization, verbal and written communications, customer service, math, analysis, reading, following instruction, basic computer usage.
