    Responsibilities

    Reporting into our SVP, Chief Product and Technology Officer, the Global Corporate Portfolio Director will be responsible for driving alignment across functional and geographic leaders, managing a consolidated portfolio in line with executive leadership objectives, and fostering continuous improvement within our Engineering and IT departments. This role is pivotal in developing a culture that aligns with our business system, transforming processes to meet long-term strategic goals and keeping pace with technological and industry advancements.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Leadership: Guide cross-functional teams globally, ensuring cohesive strategic direction and operational alignment.
    • Portfolio Management: Oversee the portfolio to ensure it aligns with business goals, analyzing market trends, assessing risks, and identifying opportunities for acceleration.
    • Communication and Relationship Management: Cultivate strong relationships with finance teams, stakeholders, and clients worldwide, enhancing seller satisfaction and driving positive outcomes.
    • Analysis and Reporting: Utilize metrics and data visualization to report on portfolio performance and inform organizational decision-making.
    • Governance and Best Practices: Implement portfolio management policies, standards, and methodologies, contributing to the development of common practices and tools.
    • Continuous Improvement Focus: The successful candidate will champion continuous improvement in engineering and IT, integrating Lean and Agile methodologies with traditional product and process development.

    The incumbent will:

    Build a corporate portfolio process for MSA, and develop and initial prioritized portfolio:

    • Financial Model Development: Partner with MSA finance to create and deploy a standardized financial model that will be applied to all portfolio projects, assessing their financial value.
    • Project Scoring Criteria: Design a standardized project scoring framework that considers not only financial value but also strategic needs, implementation risks, and enterprise risks.
    • Resource Estimation Tool Rollout: Implement a resource estimation tool across the portfolio, enabling global visibility into project timing and identifying bottlenecks.
    • Collaboration with PMO Director: Work closely with the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) to adjust resource planning and ensure successful portfolio implementation.
    • Ongoing Portfolio Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive portfolio management process covering strategic corporate initiatives, key continuous improvement (CI) programs, and global technology initiatives.

    Drive a Continuous Improvement Culture and Strategically Evolve and Deploy MSA Engineering and IT Processes:

    • NPD Process Enhancement: Create a robust strategy and implementation plan for continuous improvement of the NPD process, including related tools and sub-processes. This will involve better supporting evolving product development needs, technology integration, and the development of a connected product ecosystem.
    • Engineering Disciplines Enablement: Ensure that our changing engineering disciplines (including electronics, software development, and system architecture) are well-supported by modern processes and methodologies.
    • Process Culture in IT: Establish a culture of process excellence within the IT department, emphasizing efficiency, quality, and innovation.
    • New Process Standards: Collaborate with IT leadership to develop and implement new process standards that align with our strategic goals.
    • Process Ownership Alignment: Partner with engineering and IT domain leaders and program management to establish clear roles and responsibilities for business processes and deliverable ownership. Ensure alignment with Lean process management principles.
    • Data-Driven Insights: Utilize data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities across the organization.
    • Data Evangelism: Promote the effective use and maintenance of data at all levels, empowering individuals and teams to independently pursue improvement initiatives.
    • R&D Alignment: Collaborate with the MSA Business System, Data Strategy, and Acquisition Integration teams to maintain alignment on key initiatives. Propose testing and piloting of new concepts within R&D when appropriate.

    Lead R&D Process Transformation (including the implementation of Lean and Agile concepts in the NPD process):

    • Oversee the work of an R&D Transformation leader (and potential additional associates), who will focus on optimizing the current waterfall-oriented stage-gate NPD process by introducing Lean and Agile concepts, with the goal of a tailor-made enabling process the best suits our current and future business needs and suits the way we need to work.

    • Coaching and Development: Demonstrated ability to coach and develop associates by providing feedback, instruction, and developmental guidance to help them excel.
    • Delegation and Accountability: A proven track record of sharing authority and responsibilities with others to move decision-making and accountability downward through the organization.
    • Global Leadership: Experience leading global program initiatives or driving process improvements across diverse geographies.
    • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills that can influence decisions and actions among stakeholders.
    • Consulting and Change Management: Strong consulting skills and expertise in change management.
    • Up to 30% travel to MSA Design centers (Cranberry, Berlin, Chatillon, Irvine, Devizes, Poole, and Suzhou) to advise and collaborate with NPD teams

    Experience/Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other science or technical discipline.
    • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including a successful track record in a combination of project management, portfolio management, engineering, new product development, and technology development.
    • At least 3 years of direct management experience. Significant, successful project management or technical leadership experience may be substituted for direct people management, as appropriate.

    Preferred Certifications:

    • Lean Certification
    • PMP Certification

    Education Preferred:

    • Master's degree in engineering or other science or technical discipline and/or MBA. Advanced degree can be substituted for 3 years' experience.
