    Job Overview 

    The Director of Power Solutions will facilitate NET Power’s growth by identifying, targeting, and creating valuable opportunities in project development and power marketing and solutions leveraging the unique benefits of NET Power’s innovative carbon free emissions power plant technology. 

    This position will report to the Head of Originations and will collaborate with the origination, commercial operations, and project development teams to analyze market opportunities for partnerships and project development, evaluate project risks and economics, identify and assess regulatory markets and incentive policies to enhance project returns (power and environmental attributes), and work with our partners to develop power marketing and offtake solutions to support customer and regulatory policy goals for 24x7 carbon free power. The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience in the power and gas trading sectors and demonstrate a deep understanding of the energy landscape.  

    This role is will sit in our Durham, NC office. 

     

    Key Responsibilities  

    Origination and Project Development:   

    • Close collaboration with NET Power energy markets and analytics lead to conduct comprehensive research and analysis of regional power markets and identify locations most attractive for originating and developing NET Power generation projects.   
    • Perform in-depth analysis of regional power grids identifying the “bright-spot” locations to support new partnership and investments including regional spark spread analysis, generation (retirements/ new-builds), power demand, transmission and infrastructure availability (interconnections, congestion, etc), clean power regulations and policy support, and other emerging trends.  Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on market assessments.  
    • Work closely with the origination team and our project partners to enhance our carbon free power product offering and contracting.  Develop power offtake solutions and proposals to support new project financings, 24x7 carbon free customer procurement and corporate emission reduction programs, firming of intermittent resources, and other means to comply with growing corporate/ regulatory push for CFE that meets more stringent additionality, geographic, and time-matching requirements. 
    • Develop proposals to monetize and optimize the environmental attribute value of our carbon free power offering.   
    • Identify and evaluate regional capacity and ancillary market opportunities and resulting financial impact to NET Power projects with ongoing monitoring and updates to leadership. 
    • Serve as our Power SME to support our government relations, markets analytics and commercial teams as we advocate for new policies and evaluate opportunities.  Provide power contracting and markets input towards the development of project models.   
    • Support origination and commercial operations with customer outreach and education (eg utility IRP planning).    

    Enable Projects by Executing Strategies:  

    • Collaborate with our partners and origination team to develop and negotiate term sheets, MOU’s, and other customer/ partnership agreements to define and enhance our power product offering.   
    • Develop, evaluate, negotiate, and execute commercial contracting strategies for project fuel supply and power offtake.  Explore alternative solutions (tolling, asset management agreements, etc) depending on the owner, financing, and customer requirements.    Make recommendations to support customers and project objectives.   
    • Perform full risk assessment on projects and customer opportunities recommending and implementing risk management solutions to reduce energy price, volume, compliance, and operations risk.   
    • Collaborate with NET Power’s commercial operations team to support and evaluate customer proposals and licensing opportunities, customer RFP’s and integrated resource planning (IRP), feasibility studies, proposal creation, structuring, and power contract negotiations of solicitations with target customers. 
    • Support project execution and origination teams on power/ gas interconnection studies, planning, and permitting, and contracting ensuring effective coordination among internal teams and external partners. Monitor project progress, identify risks, and develop mitigation plans to ensure timely and successful project completion.  
    • Manage activities related to risk analysis, compliance, internal controls implementation, documentation verification, monitoring, and reporting.   
    • Stay updated on the latest regulatory compliance requirements and ensure that power solutions and projects adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and environmental standards.  

     

    Qualifications  

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.  
    • Proven experience in power marketing and offtake solutions and energy markets development, preferably in the utility industry or related sectors. Energy origination experience is a big plus.  
    • Strong understanding of the power and gas trading markets and contracting strategies, including market dynamics, risk management tools, pricing mechanisms, financing strategies, and regulatory frameworks.  
    • Demonstrated success in identifying and evaluating market opportunities, developing business strategies, and executing commercial agreements.  
    • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and industry trends.  
    • Strong project management abilities, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.  
    • Able to work effectively in a matrixed environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders.  
    • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.  
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.  
    • Knowledge of environmental and sustainability aspects related to power generation would be an advantage.
