  • Position Summary

    Mount Mary University seeks a dynamic individual to contribute to the realization of our Mission through the role of a faculty position in the Interior Architecture & Design Program to begin in the Fall 2024 semester. The University is looking to hire a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member.

    The program is interested in candidates who have a passion for teaching and an interest in developing and participating in program, University, and industry organizations and events. They should be well-versed in current industry practices and technology and have a record of building synergistic relationships with trade partners.

    This appointment is a full-time teaching position, with an average teaching load of 12 credits per semester. A commitment to a limited number of summer hours is expected and based on the program's accreditation cycle.


    Primary Responsibilities

    • Teach a full-time, 12 credit hours per semester teaching load of classes in content areas including entry-level and advanced design studio courses, design topic specific courses, software and technology, and senior capstone project research and career development
    • Engage in a program of research and/or creative scholarship, leading to collaborative projects in the program and other University or industry partners
    • Demonstrate effective, student-centered teaching across a range of course offerings
    • Advise and mentor students as a faculty advisor
    • Work collaboratively with others to develop curriculum, recruit students, launch new initiatives and represent the program to internal and external audiences
    • Assist in the CIDA process by preparing written documents and assess, assemble, organize student work.
    • Facilitate the program's American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) student chapter
    • Fulfill program reporting and scheduling requirements, assume Board positions with partnering institutions
    • Cultivate relationships and actively participate in one or more professional organizations (i.e., Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), ASID, International Interior Design Association (IIDA), American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Kitchen and Bath Association) to position the University as a leader in design education
    • Serve on Faculty Assembly and other University committees
    • Manifest a commitment to the mission of Mount Mary University and participate in Mount Mary events and activities
    • Provide service to the greater community
    • Perform other duties, as assigned

    Skills and Experience

    • Master's degree in an interior-related discipline required (a terminal degree in interior design or closely related field (Ph.D, Master of Interior Design, M.Arch, MFA, MBA, or foreign equivalent) or progress toward a terminal degree is required for a tenure-track appointment; applicants without a terminal degree but with a significant record of professional achievement will be considered for a non-tenure track or professor of practice appointment)
    • Relevant experience in interior design and/or architecture related fields
    • NCDIQ certification or within one year of employment
    • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in higher education strongly preferred
    • Evidence of scholarly/creative activities
    • Excellent writing, communication, and Microsoft Excel skills required
    • Exhibits professionalism, integrity and ethics at all times
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups, facilitate group process and foster collaborative decision-making
    • Outstanding presentation skills; must be able to communicate and interact with students, employees, donors, accrediting bodies, partners and alumni
    • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students and students from at-risk backgrounds
    • Proficiency in Enscape, Revit, AutoCAD and Sketch-up. Relevant industry standard software experience required
    • Experience with building codes, architectural practices and processes in multiple industry applications
