Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Biology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology, Tenure Track

  • The Biology Department at Suffolk University invites applicants for a full time, tenure-track position in Biology.  The Department is interested in recruiting a teacher-scholar with a teaching and research focus that would complement or expand our department’s current offerings.

     

    Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching and scholarly potential including a research agenda and plans for peer-reviewed publications and applications for external funding that include opportunities to engage undergraduate students in researchThe successful candidate will teach in our undergraduate program in Biology.  The Biology Department offers three undergraduate majors (BS in Biology, Radiation Therapy, and Radiation Science) and one graduate program (MS in Medical Dosimetry). We encourage candidates who can teach existing courses that we offer and are excited about developing and teaching courses in their field of interest, whether molecular/cellular, organismic, or ecology/diversity, biomedicine, epidemiology and data science, scientific communication, urban ecosystems, marine science, or other biological areas.  Teaching experience with undergraduates is preferred.

     

    Faculty in the Biology Department are award-winning teachers recognized for innovative pedagogical practices, scientific outreach and public impact, and active research agendas which include scholarship produced collaboratively with students as well as disciplinary and regional colleagues in the exciting Boston-area health sciences, biotech, and community science research community.  Department faculty take advantage of our location in the heart of the city to design exciting real-world learning opportunities, including clinical and research experiences in world-class hospitals and research institutions which are minutes away from our campus.

     

    The successful candidate will contribute to Suffolk’s rich tradition of community-engaged teaching and experiential education that prepares our diverse, substantially first-generation college students—40% of whom are Pell-eligible—for careers and civic engagement.     Candidates must hold a PhD by the commencement of the 2024/2025 academic year; ABD candidates in the final stages of completing their degrees will be considered.
