2nd year Law Clerk
Assists the Managing Paralegal with all of these activities
· Daily filings in court
· Mail processing both incoming and outgoing
· Setting up and maintaining open and closed client files
· Conducts legal research related to issues raised by the information collected that is in turn used to guide additional evidence collection efforts.
· May attend trial with the attorneys when there are complicated legal issues, to provide instant legal research in response to arguments made by opposing counsel or questions asked by the Court.
By the end of their time as the Law Clerk, they should be competent to collect and organize all evidence in a case with minimal supervision.
The Senior Law Clerk- 3rd year Law Clerk
· receives assignments from all attorneys but works primarily and directly for the Managing Attorney
· likely a candidate for a staff attorney position after graduation, and passing the Tennessee Bar
· S/he will shadow the attorneys to client meetings, court, mediation, and depositions (as they are available given class schedules)
· write simple pleadings and legal memoranda
· Develop a marketing concept for their own practice post-graduation
By graduation, the Senior Law Clerk should be competent to handle a simple legal case with minimal supervision.
