The Benedictine College Department of Music is currently accepting applications for a full-time tenure-track string educator starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. The successful candidate will lead our string program, direct the college orchestra, teach applied string lessons, string methods, and other courses based upon department needs and candidate’s background. These courses may include other education courses, music history, theory, aural skills, and general education courses.

The Department of Music offers the following programs: Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music with specialization in Composition, and Bachelor of Arts in Music with specialization in Liturgical Music. The department consists of four full-time tenure-track faculty and 15 adjuncts. It has been a member of National Association of Schools of Music since 1946, and has been designated an All-Steinway School. The department serves approximately 30 music majors and 450 non-majors in our ensembles and general education courses.  Points of pride for the department are recent choral performances at the Vatican and invitation for our Wind Ensemble to be featured at the 2024 KMEA annual convention.

The Benedictine orchestra program currently consists of a College/Community Orchestra that meets one evening per week. Within this ensemble are approximately 30 college students, the majority of which are non-major string players, plus community wind/brass/percussion members. The department would like to see this group transformed into a more student-focused ensemble, whose excellence can attract a more advanced string player as majors and non-majors.

Benedictine College, which has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2100 students, is a mission-centered academic community. Its mission as a Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts, residential college is the education of men and women within a community of faith and scholarship. Benedictine College provides a liberal arts education by means of academic programs based on a core of studies in the arts and sciences. In addition, the college provides education for careers through both professional courses of study and major programs in the liberal arts and sciences. As an essential element of its mission, Benedictine College fosters scholarship, independent research and performance in its students and faculty as a means of participating in and contributing to the broader world of learning. Kansas /ˈkænzəs/ (listen) is a U.S. state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka and its largest city is Wichita, with its most populated county being Johnson County. Kansas is bordered by Nebraska on the north; Missouri on the east; Oklahoma on the south; and Colorado on the west. Kansas is named after the Kansa Native American tribe, which inhabited the area. The tribe's name (natively kką:ze) is often said to mean "people of the (south) wind" although this was probably not the term's original meaning. For thousands of years, what is now Kansas was home to numerous and divers...
