Professor - Philosophy teaches courses in the discipline area of philosophy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Tenure-Track Assistant Professor - Philosophy

  • General Summary of Position:

    The Department of Philosophy seeks a full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor. AOS: Asian/nonwestern and/or philosophy of race. AOC: open. The person filling this position will teach foundational and advanced courses in their area of expertise, and contribute to joint curriculum and research initiatives at the university. The successful candidate will have a robust scholarly record and research program in their area of specialization, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. We also have teaching needs in applied ethics, and seek candidates willing to teach in the area of biomedical, public health, or engineering ethics. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2023, and continue until the position is filled. The appointment is scheduled to begin no later than September 1, 2024.

    The Department of Philosophy at UMass Lowell consists of 7 full time faculty. Our strengths include feminist philosophy, applied and normative ethics, philosophy of biology, philosophy of law, American pragmatism, and philosophy of religion. The department values public philosophy and interdisciplinary collaborations.

    The College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS) is the largest academic unit of the University, with 12 academic departments and over 230 full-time faculty. FAHSS has experienced significant growth in recent years, including hiring over 70 new faculty members, achieving a 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and adding several new interdisciplinary graduate programs.
