Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Physics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • Silver Lake Regional High School seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of a physics teacher.  Working as part of a team of science teachers, the successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues on the development and implementation of curriculum initiatives and review of instruction and student learning.  Qualified applicants should be familiar with the Massachusetts Science Technology & Engineering Frameworks, hold Massachusetts licensure, and have experience instructing high school physics utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9-12.  

     

    The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing freshman introductory physics, a MCAS assessed curriculum, as well as some technology/engineering electives.  Instruction will center around engaging students in relevant and rigorous questions, problems, and challenges that introduce the science practices to promote a deeper understanding of content.

     

    Performance Responsibilities:

    • Draws on content standards of the relevant curriculum frameworks to help plan units of study and develop learning activities that challenge students to apply knowledge via a student centered approach.
    • Regularly uses formal and informal assessments to identify teaching strategies and learning activities appropriate to the specific discipline and student readiness.
    • Communicates high standards and expectations, and makes learning objectives clear to students.
    • Works actively to involve parents in their child's academic activities and performance, and communicates clearly with them. 
    • Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging physics lessons that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility.
