Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive institution in the nation’s capital, seeks a creative and collaborative faculty member in Special Education within the School of Education to begin in Fall 2024.   Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education, the successful candidate will teach and oversee courses in special education, contribute to program growth and development as well as continued program approval and accreditation.

     

    This position will be especially appealing to candidates with a commitment to social justice, as the Trinity School of Education both provides supportive pathways to careers in education for students who might otherwise not have had such opportunities, and centers curriculum around educational equity.   The position also offers substantial prospects for innovation and leadership.

     

    This is a non-tenure track 12-month appointment, annually renewable.

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Doctorate in special education from an accredited university
    • Experience as a special education teacher in a PK-12 school
    • Record of successful undergraduate teaching
    • Experience with accreditation
    • Knowledge of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Professional Preparation Standards
    • Ability and inclination to use data for continuous improvement
    • Experience developing curricula
    • Ability to support adjunct faculty
    • Demonstrable commitment to equity
    • Comfort with educational technology
    • Positive and collaborative team member

     Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience as a special education director in a PK-12 school
    • Experience developing programs
    • Experience developing PK-12 partnerships
    • Participation in professional education associations (such as AACTE, AERA) and/or special education associations (such as CEC or its affiliate organizations)

     Primary duties:

    • Teaching special education courses
    • Overseeing adjuncts who teach special education courses
    • Collaborating with School of Education leadership on continuous improvement in special education and contributing to accreditation and program approval
    • Collaborating with School of Education leadership on developing new special education programming
