    Other Conditions: State extramural funds. Position to begin January 2024 or soon thereafter.  Renewal contingent upon satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and program needs. Selectee is required to pass a criminal background check and complete Title XI training.
     
    Duties and Responsibilities
    Teach early childhood special education courses via a variety of distance delivery modes; supervise teacher candidates on all islands; assist in coordinating teacher preparation/licensure programs; provide service to the department and college; other duties as assigned.
     
    Instructor Minimum Qualifications

    1. Master’s degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
    2. Classroom experience as a licensed special educator teaching preschool to grade-3 students with disabilities;
    3. Broad knowledge of early childhood special education instructional methods, assessment, and behavior management techniques;
    4. Understanding of developmentally appropriate practice.
     
    Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
     [In addition to the Instructor Minimum Qualifications]
    1. Doctorate degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
    2. Evidence of scholarly research and contributions to scholarship.
     
    Desirable Qualifications
    1. Experience working in inclusive early childhood special education settings; 
    2. Knowledge of UHM special education teacher training programs; 
    3. Experience with nontraditional university student populations from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
