    Position Summary:
    The Admissions Communication Assistant is responsible for assisting the Admissions office in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive and integrated communication plan that focuses on short-term and long-term strategies that will include all written, electronic, and new media efforts. This position will manage daily website maintenance, social media management, tele-counseling team supervision, and creation of publication content. They will also participate in the recruitment, admissions, and matriculation of new students to Southern Oregon University. This position must understand and represent SOU academic programs, admission requirements, residency requirements, housing services, athletics, student activities, and other aspects of the University. They must be able to work with little or no supervision while recruiting students and be able to explain SOU policies independent of direct supervisor, while traveling. They must interact effectively with prospective students, parents, high school and community college counselors, and the community to ensure all questions and needs are addressed in a timely manner.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • - Four years of experience as an editor reviewing and correcting written materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors and modifying copy to conform to standards of style, length and ease of understanding.
    A Bachelors degree in Journalism, English, or related field may substitute for two years of the required experience.

    Preferred Qualification :
    • Masters Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or other relevant field.
    • Experience working in admissions outreach and recruitment.
    • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
    • Experience working as part of a team.
    Oregon Drivers License and clean driving record.
    • Supervision experience.
    • Experience planning and organizing programs on high school and college campuses.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Ability to demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the University community and establish and maintain cooperative and effective relations with University employees, students, and public
    Ability to coordinate several functions and determine the relative importance of each;ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.Excellent organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks, achieve results, and expedite projects; ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    Ability to work in an environment with regular disruptions and customer service needs
    Excellent communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
    Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications.Working knowledge of MAC and PC platforms, and packages such as Adobe In Design, Photoshop, Cascade, MS Office (Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint)to prepare graphic designs, marketing materials, documents, spreadsheets,publications and reports, social media platforms, internet, email and online calendaring
    Ability to work in a demanding environment with constantly changing priorities. Ability to independently coordinate large scale, complex projects with broad, visible impact
    Ability to handle multiple work unit projects, understanding complex problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of marketing on the larger operation
    Ability to work flexible schedule in order to facilitate coverage of large scaleprograms, training sessions or events
    Takes initiative in independently planning, organizing, and performing workassignments within broadly defined parameters
    Demonstrated ability to interpret and consistently apply a wide variety of complexpolicies and procedures
    Strong analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, and to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations.
    Demonstrated ability to proactively assess work operations and anticipate potential problems; ability to develop and implement strategies for preventing/resolving problems.
    Demonstrated ability to provide training and direction to student assistants
    Working knowledge or able to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.

    Special Conditions
    Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
    Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
    Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
