Renal Dialysis Technician under the supervision of a registered nurse, performs required monitoring and duties during patient dialysis treatment. Prepares machine and solutions according to protocol. Being a Renal Dialysis Technician monitors patient before, during, and after treatment. Administers prescribed treatment according to physician and nursing orders. Additionally, Renal Dialysis Technician documents all treatment details as required. Ensures patient safety and comfort during treatment. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and may require the Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) or be required to be working towards the certification. Typically reports to a registered nurse. The Renal Dialysis Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Provides nutritional education to ESRD patients. Tactfully communicates and educates patients and visitors in a positive, informative manner. Communicates appropriately with patients of various ages. Conducts in-service training in areas of diet therapy and patient care as needed. Completes nutritional assessment on all required patients and places it in medical record in a timely manner. Demonstrates the ability to assess and interpret data relative to patient’s age. Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of patients served. Assesses nutritional status of chronic dialysis patients throughout all stages of the life cycles. Screens patients for nutritional problems, as appropriate for patient’s age, and disease process.
