The Extension Agent, under general supervision, implements and plans educational programs and activities in assigned program areas. Supports and assists in the implementation of educational programs and activities in program areas for which other staff members have assigned leadership responsibilities. The areas of focus are small business development, business contracting, agribusiness development, community resources, business financing, home ownership, or community organization development.
Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
Regularly delivers Community and Economic Development (CED) community-based educational programs through a wide variety of teaching methods at sites throughout the geographic area served.
Provides general assistance to entrepreneurs, small business owners, agri-businesses, non-profit organizations, and landowners on financial resources, business planning, marketing, budgeting, efficient agri-business practices, and business development issues.
Plan and implement appropriate impact evaluations and reports to document program effectiveness.
Develops plans of work based on ongoing assessment of community needs.
Develops and follows a personal plan for professional development in the area of community resource development.
Works with county and regional economic development agencies to incorporate local county needs into economic development plans programs, and strategies.
Collaborates with non-profit community organizations, agencies, key stakeholders, civic groups, local governments, and other Extension staff in the region to provide a broad array of integrated and multicounty programs.
Collaborates with Statewide Extension staff to present a unified and coordinated Regional Extension program effort.
Assist in the marketing and promotion of the Community and Economic Development Program Team by participating in internet radio blogs on various small business and community topics, mass media interviews (when appropriate), and participating in Extension publications on community and economic development topics.
Performs other duties as assigned.

· Ability to recruit and market programs with confidence, make decisions, and be dependable.
· Provide courteous and responsive service to the public, diverse disadvantaged rural/urban people, as well as professionals.
· Planning and organizing, written and oral communication skills, teaching and presentation skills.
· Ability to utilize technology and social media for the delivery of programs.
· Valid South Carolina driver’s license is required.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public policy, economics, extension, or a closely related field and 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
While there are no supervisory responsibilities at this time, at some point in the future, the agent may supervise the work of paraprofessionals, volunteers, and contracted service providers.

The individual will be located in a Extension regional office within the State of South Carolina.
The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision. The employee must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, exhibit a good working relationship with people, and highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities. Individual must be able to relate to diverse disadvantaged rural/urban people as well as professionals. A valid driver's license is required.
