Teacher
Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health is a residential treatment facility, located in Summerville, South Carolina. We treat children and adolescents, ages 7 to 21, who require a highly structured and supervised therapeutic environment. Residents attend programming separately, and are assigned to a group based on functioning level and treatment needs.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing direct instruction and other educational services to hospitalized adolescents in order to help them maintain or improve their academic performance levels/standing. Knowledge of educational principles and methodology as applied to students with emotional and learning problems; assessment, planning, organizational, evaluative, and interpretive skills; time management and interpersonal skills; skills in applying a variety of instructional methodology with special populations; sound written and oral communication skills; record keeping skills; public speaking or presentation skills helpful; decision-making and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the teachers help the resident make a smooth post-discharge transition back into their home school setting.
Essential Job Duties:
Education: Bachelor's degree and current South Carolina Teaching Certification
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in Student Education preferred
License/Certification: Current, State of South Carolina Teaching Certificate in the following area: Secondary Education
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum. Demonstrates classroom management skills.
Physical Requirements: Work involves considerable sitting, standing, walking, reaching with frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 25 lbs.
