    Position Overview

    The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Mabley Developmental Center located in Dixon, Illinois to receive day-to-day guidance and assignments form the Center Director and Chief Stationary Engineer. Installs, maintains, repairs and monitors for proper operations the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) operational systems, boilers, furnaces, high pressure coal, gas or oil fired boilers and auxiliaries, stokers, blowers, flow meters, pumps, fans, belts, filters, compressors, generators, turbines, diesel engines, building automation systems, humidifiers, refrigeration (including Chlorofluorocarbon systems), electrical and computerized comfort control systems, ventilating and air handling unit temperature control systems, etc. Makes rounds of buildings of the center, boiler, and mechanical rooms at regular intervals. Serves on an on-call basis to respond to emergencies at the center for maintenance concerns or issues that arise. Travels in the performance of job duties.

    Job Responsibilities

    1. Receives day-to-day guidance and assignments from Center Director and Chief Stationary Engineer.
    2. Makes rounds of buildings of the center, boiler, and mechanical rooms at regular intervals.
    3. Serves on an on-call basis to respond to emergencies at the center for maintenance concerns or issues that arise.
    4. Tests and records water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of systems.
    5. Travels to various sites to assist other facilities in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
    6. Completes all mandatory training for compliance with all regulations for Mental Health Centers.
    7. Performs miscellaneous work for DHS center supervisors such as mail pick-up and delivery, moving furniture/equipment, deliver and schedule state vehicles to garages for routine maintenance and repair.
    8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight years elementary school.
    2. Requires four years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low- pressure stationary boilers.

    Conditions of Employment

    1. Requires the ability to lift and move equipment/machinery weighing up 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
    2. Requires a valid driver’s license.
    3. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
    4. Requires the ability to serve on an on-call basis to respond to emergencies at the center for maintenance concerns or issues that arise.
    5. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
    6. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
    7. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
    8. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
