Kentucky Country Day school is seeking a part-time nurse to fill in to perform duties as assigned in the absence of the School Nurse. The substitute school nurse is responsible for supporting the health and well-being of all students and staff, providing medical care as appropriate on site and coordinating with off site providers as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the health and wellness needs of students, and act as a health resource for faculty.
Maintain student health records and documentation of regular screenings.
Coordinate care and student emergency action plans related to diabetes, seizures, asthma, allergies and use of emergency medications i.e. Epi-Pen, Glucagon.
Provide care to students and staff who need emergency care due to injury or who present with an acute illness.
Protect and maintain student’s health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with Nursing Standards and state licensing.
Administer medications and treatments as required.
Planning and implementing school health management protocols and procedures, especially for emergency situations.
Identifying and assessing students’ health needs, implementing services, and evaluating plans of care that impact student learning and achievement or safety.
Developing individual health care plans and modifications for students with special health care needs.
Monitoring and educating faculty and staff regarding student allergies and medical conditions.
Facilitating state-mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements.
Documenting health services provided using electronic record-keeping and communicating with administrators regarding any accidents.
Act as a liaison between the school and home regarding student health issues.
Qualifications:
Registered nurse (RN) with valid license to practice.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid.
Experience in school nursing preferred.
Interpersonal skills: Friendly, approachable, patient, courteous
Highly organized, self-directed and responsible.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift 40lbs.
Must be able to run in the event of an emergency.
Ability to move around the campus quickly, as needed.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to work in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school.
