Analyze student performance data to inform school improvement efforts and benchmark progress. Design and implement a diversified professional development strategy that addresses instructional improvement priorities defined by student achievement and the individual needs of staff members. Conduct daily classroom observations to analyze instruction; supervise staff to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Promote the success of all students by nurturing and sustaining a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning for staff. Supervise the maintenance, cleanliness and security of the building and its contents. Provide outreach to the preschool community. Provide leadership in developing standards-based early education programs that align with the mission and goals of the Melrose Public Schools. Provide leadership in the improvement of the total educational program within the school by visiting classrooms, conferring with teachers, giving leadership in curriculum improvement and assisting in the selection and use of instructional materials. Cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships with families and community members that support student achievement and well-being. Collaborate with Special Education Coordinator in maintaining full compliance of special education needs of students. Collaborate with Special Education Coordinator regarding community resources (i.e. Counselors, Physicians, Preschool Directors, and Early Intervention) relative to services for students with special needs. Collaborate with Special Education Coordinator in the transitioning of students from Early Intervention to Pre Kindergarten and from Pre Kindergarten to Kindergarten level services. Support the process for class placement of students with special needs moving into Kindergarten. Collaborate with Special Education Coordinator in providing instructional leadership and guidance to the Special Education Department in the ongoing review and implementation of instructional practices at the early childhood level. Supervise and evaluate all instructional personnel Essential Functions of the Job: Must possess the ability to: Provide guidance to the District Special Education staff and general education staff regarding appropriate services and placement for PreK students. Work cooperatively with the administration, teachers and students in the development of General and Special Education programs, services and supports. Identify emerging issues and inform appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Desired Core Competencies and Qualifications Licensure in Early Childhood, Special Education, or Speech/Language OR Early Childhood DESE License required. Licensure or eligible for licensure as Principal/Assistant Principal Prek-6 or Special Education Administrator At least five years as a teacher and/or administrator Ability to communicate clearly with all members of the school community, including the office of Special Education/Special Education Director, staff, families, and Superintendent of Schools and School Committee. A love for preschool aged children and deep understanding of their social-emotional and academic development. Desire to create a supportive atmosphere for all school community members, including, but not limited to, age-appropriate emotional support for students, professional help to staff, and practical guidance to families.
