    JOB SUMMARY

    The school principal at East High School provides positive leadership and guidance to create continuous improvement toward  excellence and achievement for each student.  The school principal directs the overall site operations, services and supervises the staff of the school.

     

    The school principal implements policies/procedures/processes to improve educational experiences; develops and deploys professional development activities for staff; facilitates learning community meetings such as School Improvement Councils and School Community Councils; communicates across all constituencies in a professional, persuasive manner, and; develops and implements research-based school improvement strategies.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Master's degree in Education or related field.
    2. Valid state of Utah Professional Administrative/Supervisory License or an Administrative/Supervisory license from another state that is transferrable to Utah.
    3. Three years of licensed school administrative experience in K-12 education. 
    4. Five years of licensed experience in K-12 education.
    5. Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Ability to provide positive and inspirational leadership/guidance and a collaborative mindset to learning community stakeholders.
    2. Experience with coaching teachers through growth-evoking feedback, and development and delivery of professional development activities to improve student achievement communication and engagement strategies with all members of the school community.
    3. Experience supervising and evaluating the conduct/performance of all assigned personnel.
    4. Ability to implement policies, procedures and/or processes for providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
    5. Experience developing and delivery of professional growth activities to engage staff and designed to support individual school/District goals and programs to improve student achievement.
    6. Experience facilitating grade level/content PLC's/data meetings for analysis of student data to inform instructional practices for highest student achievement regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or prior academic achievement, based on the School Improvement Plan.
    7. Knowledgeable of culturally competent strategies and culturally responsive, professional communication/engagement strategies with all members of the school community.
    8. Ability to lead implementation of effective teaching practices for English Language Learners.
    9. Knowledge of and leadership on behalf of: effective English Language Learners teaching practices; accelerated/extended learning programs, and; special needs students, including laws and regulations of special education and 504 plans.
    10. Knowledge of school budget management in alignment with school needs, following district budget, procurement and accounting policies and procedures with integrity and ethics.
    11. Skill in developing positive growth-minded interactions with student groups and in working with individual students, including development/implementation of a school-wide behavior management process.
    12. Knowledge in student leadership development, deployment and supervision of student activities with consideration of academic and social growth.
    13. Spanish Speaker: speaks, reads, writes and understands Spanish.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Provide leadership and commitment to Board established goals for student achievement
      1. Carefully select, hire and effectively assign staff
      2. Develop positive and collaborative relationships with families
      3. Build and sustain relationships with community stakeholders including but not limited to community business, cultural, and not for profit partner
    2. Collaborate with other relevant colleagues and community members; attend a variety of meetings; stay current on applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations; prepare written materials (e.g. budgets, curriculum, reports, directives, memos, etc.) prepare and deliver presentations
    3. Provide leadership development, deployment and supervision of student activities with consideration of academic, social and ethical growth
    4. Supervise and evaluate the conduct/performance of all assigned personnel based on identified needs and individual goals
    5. Implement policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements
    6. Provide professional development to engage staff in activities designed to support individual school/district goals and programs to improve student learning; coach teachers and staff through growth-evoking feedback
      1. Provide timely and constructive feedback on classroom instruction to develop teacher practice
      2. Develop a culture of collegial and professional relationships among staff and students that promote critical reflection, peer feedback, collaboration, shared accountability, and continuous improvement
      3. Facilitate leadership capacity among staff 
    7. Facilitate grade level/content PLC's/data meetings to apply analysis of student data to best instructional practices for highest student achievement regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or prior academic achievement
    8. Effectively and diplomatically interact and work in cooperation with district staff at all levels, as well as outside entities; incorporate culturally competent strategies and utilize culturally responsive communication and engagement strategies with all members of the school community
    9. Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represent the department/district in a professional manner; communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and other district employees
    10. Maintain adaptability and understanding of cultural differences and in working in a diverse environment while coping with stressful situations related to students and maintaining confidentiality
    11. Knowledge of effective English Language Learners teaching practices
    12. Knowledge and leadership on behalf of special needs students, including laws and regulations of special education and 504 plans
    13. Knowledge and leadership on behalf of accelerated/extended learning programs
    14. Analyze and interpret data to implement achievement strategies to improve student achievement based on the Student Success Plan (SSP), school-level student achievement data and other factors
    15. Manage the school facility and grounds for an appropriate, safe, secure, and orderly working and learning environment
      1. Manage conflict constructively
      2. Maintain a visible and consistent presence throughout the school
    16. Manage a school budget, requisitions, and all school funds in alignment with school needs, following district budget, procurement and accounting policies and procedures with integrity and ethics
    17. Develop positive growth-minded interactions with student groups and in working with individual students, including development/implementation of a school-wide behavior management process and provide leadership development, deployment and supervision of student activities with consideration of academic, social and ethical growth
      1. Develop, articulate, steward, and operationalize a clear vision for learning for all students and work with staff to implement a plan to accomplish that vision
      2. Clearly communicate learning and development goals that reflect high expectations for learning and growth, a belief that all students can learn, and a commitment to meet each students' educational needs
      3. Ensure all school stakeholders can articulate a clear and shared vision for learning
    18. Communicate campus news and events with the school community and stakeholders through professional communication strategies
    19. Provide sound judgement and advise to constituent community; use excellent critical thinking, decision making and organizational skills; persistent, productive problem-solving, and initiative to seize opportunities
    20. Experience in collaboration with district employees as necessary for school improvement, and to contribute to the mission of the district as a whole
    21. Demonstrated experience in being ethical, courteous and provide educational leadership in employment activities
    22. Responsible for compliance with all requirements of the Utah Educational Leadership Standards 
    23. Work with limited supervision; ability to work effectively under constant deadlines and time constraints; manage multiple tasks and responsibilities while remaining well-organized and prioritize accordingly
    24. Maintain regular and predictable attendance for the purpose of fulfilling job requirements efficiently and effectively. Will be required to attend and supervise activities, events, and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis
    25. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the school
