Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments in a nursing home or long term care setting. Conducts patient evaluation of speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating and counseling the patient. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home documents assessment and patient progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Ensures that treatment aligns with patient needs and is within the parameters set by the payer. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology or equivalent. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and may require a state license. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     The Speech and Language Pathologist is responsible for assisting in organizing and conducting Speech Therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation outcomes.

    Duties and Responsibilities of SLP Speech Language Pathologist:

    • Assessment of referred patients that require rehabilitation services
    • Providing direct patient care to assess their medical condition, functional capabilities, limitations and restrictions and potential for rehabilitation.
    • Establish and administer a treatment program with specific goals determined according to the patient’s capacity and tolerance under the direction of the Physician.
    • Set realistic and achievable goals for their patients
    • Document and record the patients’ condition
    • Educate patients and families in an appropriate therapy method.
    • Evaluations, weekly progress notes, recertification and discharge documentations.
    • Collaborates with all disciplines to provide best patient centered treatment and care.
    • Perform all other duties assigned by Director of Rehabilitation
    • Compliance with confidentiality, HIPPA and Federal Residents Rights.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Must have graduated from an accredited Speech Therapist college or university.
    • Must have a valid professional license and registration for state of RI
    • Experience with long-term care and/or geriatric care is preferred but not required
