Student Activities Officer assists in the development, organization, and oversight of the university/college's extra-curricular programs. Sets up social events and has a participatory role in the Greek system, the student government, and student run clubs. Being a Student Activities Officer approves funding for various student activities. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Student Activities Officer typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Oversees the day-to-day direction/vision for Student Engagement
Coordinates campus wide programming (on all three campuses) that is aligned with the goal and values of MassBay Community College, focusing on enhancing the sense of community, student engagement, retention and personal development and MassBay’s commitment to diversity & inclusion.
Provides leadership and guidance to college student clubs/organizations, including but not limited to formulates/coordinates procedures for student clubs; produces/distributes club handbooks; provides on-going trainings for club and advisors; assists with formation of new clubs and of club activities; recruits faculty/staff for advisory roles with student clubs.
Partner with the Coordinator of Students of Color program to design and create social and educational programs for Students of Color.
Work with the Chief Diversity Officer in supporting student affinity groups
Work collaboratively with the Chief Diversity Officer and Students of Color Program Coach to develop student engagement programs and activities.
Responsible for the oversight of three budgets, Student Engagement, Clubs and Student Government Association.
Serves as the advisor to Student Government Association (SGA).
Assists in developing/implementing Student Engagement policies and procedures;
Coordinate civic engagement opportunities for students
Responsible for the development and implementation of the LEAD (Leadership, Engagement and Development) Program, student leadership workshops and provides training for student leaders;
Assists student organizations on appropriate fiscal management procedures;
Produces weekly student newsletter
Maintain the Student Engagement, SGA and Clubs websites
Plan and implement the first six-week programming model.
Assist with the coordination of the theme month programming (women’s history month, Black History Month, LGBT , etc)
Interacts with various agencies/individuals (i.e. – attends meetings; participates in campus-wide committees and serves in chair/co-chair capacities as appropriate; acts as liaison between students, faculty, and administration; participates in community service projects and education; communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, students, student leaders, faculty members, alumni, counselors, other academic institutions, community organizations, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals to coordinate activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems).
Supervises assigned staff (i.e. – instructs assigned staff in performance of duties according to established standards; plans the work of others and allocates personnel; prioritizes, assigns, reviews, and coordinates work; assists with complex or problem situations and provides direction; responds to employee issues and concerns; recommends the transfer, promotion, discipline, discharge, and salary increases of employees).
Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas (i.e. – maintains a working knowledge of assigned area; maintains current knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws/regulations; researches new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions).
