As an Oral Surgery Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth and efficient operations within our oral surgery practice.
Daily responsibilities include:
Surgical Support: You will assist with the oral surgeon during surgical procedures. This includes tasks like passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating the surgeon's needs.
Consultation Support: During patient consultations, you will assist by taking patient histories, recover sedated patients, and helping the surgeon in explaining treatment plans and procedures to the patient.
Assist with prosthetics: In some cases, oral surgery may involve the placement of prosthetic devices, such as dental implants. Your role will include preparing and passing necessary instruments and materials, ensuring the prosthetic is securely placed, and helping with any adjustments or impressions.
Prepare Operatories/Room Setup: Before each surgical procedure, you will be responsible for preparing the operatory or treatment room. This includes ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are ready with the room being clean and sterilized.
Take Pano/CT Scans: Operate and maintain the panoramic and cone-beam computed tomography (CT) scanning equipment.
Sterilize and Clean Instruments: You will be responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and safely storing all surgical instruments, equipment, and materials.
Pre-operative and post-operative care: Explain pre-operative instructions (Fasting, medication, transportation) and post-operative care (wound care, pain management, dietary restrictions) to patients.
Maintain Patient Confidentiality: As an Oral Surgery Assistant, you must adhere to strict confidential guidelines, ensuring that all patient information, including medical records and discussions, remains private and secure.
Inventory Management: Will play a role in maintaining inventory levels by tracking supplies and equipment usage. May assist in ordering necessary items for daily operations.
