JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Information Systems – Technical Support Specialist is responsible for providing first-line hardware and software technical assistance in support of the mission of the UVM Foundation. The person in this role will use technical know-how and positive relationship-development skills to meet the needs of teams and individuals at the Foundation. The role requires in-depth knowledge of Windows, deep interest in technology, and the drive to learn more.
The Foundation’s IT infrastructure provides a critical interface between the data that we use and the relationships we develop that help us to drive philanthropy. The Assistant Director ensures that end users have the tools and the support they need to manage both.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
40% Client hardware support
- Build, configure, deploy, troubleshoot, and support Windows client workstations and peripheral hardware.
- Use system imaging software and deployment services, with an ongoing focus on optimizing systems deployment.
- Work with hardware vendors to complete warranty work and/or replacements.
- Maintain hardware inventory.
- Provide first-line hardware help desk support.
35% Client operating system and software application support
- Provide first-line software help desk support.
- Install and troubleshoot client operating systems, application software, and the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Provide end-user support and training for the Foundation’s enterprise-wide CRM – Ellucian’s CRM Advance. Build custom queries, business processes, workflows, and dashboards.
10% Cybersecurity awareness training and support
- Deploy and manage cybersecurity awareness and training throughout the organization.
- Stay current with cybersecurity threats and their relevance to UVM Foundation systems.
10% Systems administration
- Manage UVM Foundation systems user accounts and password resets.
- Maintain shared network drives.
5% Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Broad technology experience that includes a range of hardware, software, operating system, and/or system administration experience.
- The ability to support Windows workstations and their peripherals: in-depth understanding of the Microsoft Windows operating system, installation and support of common application software, and the ability to troubleshoot and solve hardware and software problems.
- The ability to build, configure, deploy, and physically move client workstations and associated hardware. Familiarity with system imaging software.
- Experience with network file systems, Active Directory, and basic sys admin functions.
- Understanding of basic end-user cybersecurity topics and the ability to share that knowledge with users.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Familiarity with Windows Deployment Services.
- Experience with Group Policy.
- Dell EMC client system certification or the ability to work toward certification upon hire.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in a technology field and one or more years of related or specialized experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been developed.
