Teacher High School prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned secondary school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Welding/Industrial Arts

    High School Teacher

     

    Job Summary

    Under general supervision, provides extensive expertise to teach Industrial Arts including basic welding, basic construction, and small engine repair courses as part of the Career and Technical Education Program.  Designs and implements an effective and appropriate educational and vocational training program for assigned students to prepare them for employment; works collaboratively with pupils, parents, support staff, administrators, agencies and community groups to enhance the training and employment opportunities for students. 

     

    Under the immediate direction of the principal, to provide an education program for High School students and assist other school programs as assigned.

     

    Reports to: Building Principal/Assistant Principal

     

     Qualifications

     

    1. High School Diploma or higher (Associate degree or Bachelor's preferred)
    2. Depending on education level, at least 2 to 5 years of verified work experience related to working in a related industry.
    3. Candidate must compete a satisfactory background check.
    4. Must be eligible to obtain or must possess one of the following:
      1. NMPED Secondary teaching license with Agriculture Endorsement, or

    5. Endorsement or License in pathways above
    6. Official Industry certifications, transcripts or other credential documentation will need to be sent to Human Resources and the NMPED upon hire.
    7. Valid New Mexico Driver's License
    8. Evidence of Leadership Ability
    9. Demonstrate Communication Skills
    10. Demonstrate Public Relations Skills
    11. Must complete a finger-print background check

     

    Desired Qualifications

    1. Experience in an industrial arts related field or industry.
    2. Familiarity and Experience with effective “hands on” Instructional Practices and Professional Learning Communities.
    3. Experience Mentoring or Supervising professionals in an industry environment 

     

    Essential Functions

    • Create instructional experiences that are both academically and developmentally appropriate for High School students
    • Must be excited to share your experience and knowledge with students in a fun and hand on setting related to a technical industry.
    • Communicate accurately and effectively.
    • Maintain a professional rapport with students.
    • Obtain feedback from and communicate with students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
    • Utilize a variety of instructional methods and resources for each area taught. Use appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal.  Understand and apply learning theories.
    • Encourage the development of student involvement, responsibility, and critical thinking skills.
    • Manage classroom to ensure the best use of instructional time. Develop and implement appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior.
    • Create an atmosphere conducive to learning, self-discipline, and development of realistic and positive self-concepts. Encourage cooperation among students.
    • Follow board policies and administrative rules and regulations.
    • Oversee a student club (Skills USA or HOSA) for your instructional area and promote students to compete in state competitions.
    • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school district, and report progress or lack thereof to parents in a timely manner.
    • Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Work with staff to insure the health and wellbeing of students is a priority
    • Keep accurate records in the Student Information System- PowerSchool.
    • Cooperate with administration, parents, and co-workers.
    • Prepare for instruction and show written evidence of preparation.
    • Complete pre & post class duties (hall, bus, etc.) as assigned.
    • Use current technology for instruction and management.
    • Use diagnostic data to improve instructional programs.
    • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
    • Be responsible for students on field trips and other activities.
    • Act as a good role model within the context of the school.
    • Be evaluated under assessment guidelines for teacher competencies and indicators
    • May supervise educational assistants, student teachers and high school vocational lab students.
    • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor, in accordance with board policy and New Mexico state statues.
    • Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local, state and federal laws
