  • The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is currently seeking talented candidates for an Instrumentation Supervisor role at our Silver Springs, NV location.

    Founded in 1957, the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is a privately owned, independent test, evaluation, design and engineering facility offering development and certification testing to customers worldwide. We have substantial international experience, which allows us to evaluate products intended for global markets knowledgeably and objectively. NATC has compiled an extensive database of worldwide operational and infrastructure conditions allowing accurate definition of user duty cycles and creation of test programs that are representative of service environments around the world. NATC is a leading innovator in translating real-world conditions into validated virtual proving ground simulation and virtual prototyping.

    Position Summary:

    The Instrumentation Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising a team of instrumentation technicians (and others as required) in the planning, installation, troubleshooting, and performance of quality control checks on a variety of instrumentation packages that may be installed on a myriad of vehicle platforms with the purpose of recording accurate, pertinent, and reliable data during testing and other project-related events. Duties include supporting the installed instrumentation packages throughout the duration of the project; performing inspections, bench testing, and repair of various test equipment; and ensuring the preventive / corrective maintenance of instrumentation equipment, which entails tracking of assets, facilitating properly sustained calibrations in accordance with ISO 17025 and other applicable standards, and maintaining all necessary associated documentation. The Instrumentation Supervisor will also support research, trial installation, and validation of new and alternative sensor and data acquisition hardware and technologies. In order to be successful in all these duties, the Instrumentation Supervisor must be confident and experienced with NIST and ISO standards, as well as possessing excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong aptitude in vehicle and mechanical knowledge and problem solving is must for this position.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Facilitates the selection of appropriate sensors based upon the data requirements of the engineering/test operations groups.

    2. Maintains Instrumentation Department records utilizing filing systems and computer databases.

    3. Manages the development, sustainment, data entry, and quality control procedures.

    A. Verifying assets used on jobs are accurate and are in calibration for the dates used.

    B. Verifying documentation supporting the job is up to date and accurate for the testing effort.

    C. Creating asset certification documentation.

    D. Signing off (QA Supervisor) asset certification document as accurate for the testing effort.

    4. Responsible for asset calibration management, including:

    A. Maintaining a calibration-tracking plan, maintaining an internal and external calibration schedule, updating respective database records, and reviewing calibration results to ensure standards and requirements are met.

    B. Ensuring internal calibration procedures meet NIST and ISO standards.

    C. Conducting / Supervising quality assessment / quality control of internal calibrations.

    D. Tracking calibration sensor trends and anomalies.

    5. Responsible for the proper scheduling and installation of instrumentation in support of designated project requirements.

    A. Coordinate installations based on request date, priority, asset availability.

    B. Verify and coordinate with PM/PS regarding instrumentation requests.

    C. Instrumentation weekly meeting support.

    D. Ensure installation process is followed and signed off on for each job.

    E. Verify sensor locations meet testing needs and align with desired data collection requirements.

    F. Acquisition configuration and setup.

    G. Pretest/Posttest QA signoff.

    6. Interfaces with external vendors to provide calibration services including selecting appropriate vendors, monitoring quality of service, and establishing comprehensive vendor list.

    7. Acquires and reviews test data, recommends acquisition changes or subsequent data processing techniques to support technicians and engineers, and uploads collected data to the internal network.

    8. Relates well with employees and customers at all levels and at all times in a professional and personable manner.

    Marginal Functions:

    1. Supervise the build and repair of cabling for sensors and acquisition systems using proper soldering and assembly techniques.

    2. Understand and facilitate basic electronic and instrumentation theory to design and build custom instrumentation. Topics include anti-aliasing filters, ground loops, common mode rejection, signal to noise ratio, power consumption, etc.

    3. Responsible to ensure the proper and safe operation of basic shop equipment and hand tools.

    4. Performs other duties as designated.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Associate of Science degree from an accredited college/technical school in instrumentation, electronics or metrology with two (2) years work experience in the field of instrumentation, electronics, or metrology; or a combination of education and four (4) years work experience in instrumentation, electronics or metrology.

    2. Able to work varied work shifts.

    3. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Driver’s License.

    4. Must possess strong computer skills including data base entry, report creation, and report generation skills and proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite.

    5. Able to read, edit, and proof documentation with high accuracy.

    6. Must possess professional skills in reading and interpreting charts, graphs and tabular data.

    7. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

    8. Must be able to lead and supervise a team of personnel, including providing tasking, oversight, guidance, and performance counseling of individuals under purview.

    Work Conditions:

    1. Performs tasks in the field in a variety of temperature and/or austere environmental conditions for extended periods of time.

    2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    3. Must be able to climb onto, work under, and maneuver around vehicles.

    4. Must be able to respond to supported project personnel needs with little to no early warning, participating in crisis management / problem solving.
