Palmetto Rock Services, Inc. was formed in 1992 as a specialty subcontractor based in Spartanburg, South Carolina to provide full service rock drilling and blasting services to the construction and mining industries in the Carolinas and Georgia.

Palmetto Rock is currently searching for a Construction Manager (Drilling and Blasting). Primarily responsible for overseeing all drilling and blasting operations at various construction sites.

Responsibilities:

• Enter daily employee time, equipment hours, drill footage, and yardage totals.
• Hire and fire new Blasters and construction drillers.
• Train and mentor new Blasters.
• Measure and track performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Manage, develop, and maintain positive long-term relationships with vendors, suppliers, contractors, as well as customers/owners and representatives
• Oversee the direct activities of project blasting superintendents and construction drills.
• Ensure each project exhibits a professional working environment while following our social contract.
• Travels to and reviews projects on a weekly basis.
• Produces and reviews weekly production reports.
• Maintains a training program for drillers and blasters.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• 2 to 5 years of Superintendent and/or Foreman experience
• Blasting license in both SC and GA, or the ability to obtain preferred
• Willingness and ability to travel and work, for extended periods at job sites located predominately in the Southeastern United States
• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of site work and underground utilities
• Effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to convey information by telephone, email, and in-person; and effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations, which may include customers, vendors, and/or other employees
• Ability to read, understand, and analyze plans and specifications
• Sense of urgency and ability to respond to changing situations. Ability to adapt, prioritize and complete projects in a changing construction environment
• Ability to build a collaborative and effective team
• Able to formulate sound decisions using available information
• Ability to resolve problems involving several variables with limited supervision
• Proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge of Microsoft programs
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
• Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including working weekends as needed

Work Environment:

Work is performed outside in all types of environmental conditions. This position performs strenuous physical activity, for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions. This position must be able to lift, carry, stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.
