    Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 month / Exempt


    Salary Schedule: Non-Negotiated, 27C

     

    Start Date: Tentatively in June/July 2024


    Position Purpose: The Employee Relations Coordinator supports the district leadership in establishing a positive workplace environment through the effective and expedient resolution of barriers to successful job performance and promote a positive work environment. This individual will be tasked with investigating and enforcing District standards of professional ethics for all District employees. The Employee Relations Coordinator must have the ability to explain employee rights and responsibilities, handle complaints, and investigate concerns. This individual will work closely with district leaders and district legal representation. The Employee Relations Coordinator will respond to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner. The individual will maintain the utmost level of professional confidentiality regarding personnel matters.


    Essential Performance Responsibilities

    • Monitor and guide / conduct Human Resources actions related to employee issues to ensure fair and equitable due process for employees in a timely, reasonable, and consistent resolution of such.
    • Develop, supplement, and monitor reporting procedures for all employee issues.
    • Facilitate employee conferences in compliance with District policies/ practices/ procedures.
    • Coordinate investigations to determine facts of the issue, determine if District policies or regulations have been violated, and recommend appropriate personnel action.
    • Prepare any and all documentation of the conferences and findings, including written discipline or other personnel action.
    • Maintain files of any and all employee issue reports, conferences, and actions.
    • Conduct conferences with employees as needed and in compliance with District policies, practices, and procedures.
    • Respond to supervisor reports of employee conduct and provide guidance for appropriate steps to address the conduct.
    • Respond to reports made to the District by employees, parents, and community members regarding employee conduct.
    • Coordinate responses to all legal claims i.e., Nebraska Equal Opportunity, Commission (NEOCC), United States Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC), United States Office of Civil Rights (OCR), City of Omaha Human Rights and Relations, and personal lawsuits.
    • Coordinate all employee hearing and grievance requests.
    • Coordinate the preparation and submission of all employee related reports for the Nebraska Department of Education or Federal agencies.
    • Develop a wide variety of reports, written responses, and presentations in both manual and electronic formats for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    Additional Duties: Performs other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Chief Talent Officer.

     

    Equipment: This position requires the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

     

    Travel: Limited travel will be required.


    Physical and Mental Demands:

    • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
    • Regular attendance is important.
    • Ability to perform tasks independently.
    • Must have effective organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Works in central office environment and school building environments.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Master’s Degree or higher with emphasis in education administration or personnel management.
    • Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsement in area of administration and supervision preferred.
    • Minimum 3-5 years administrative/ supervisory experience and/or job-related experience, preferably in a large urban school district.
    • Human resources experience with emphasis in employee relations, legal aspects, and negotiated agreements.
    • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to discern the importance and urgency of issues in real time.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle highly sensitive, confidential personnel matters in a timely and professional manner.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community in a multicultural urban school district.
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
    • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, changing assignments on short notice, performing under deadlines with pressure, and work in a calm and efficient manner.
    • Ability to work as a productive team member.
    • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.

    Interrelations:

    • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
    • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
    • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
    • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
    • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

    Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

    • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
    • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
    • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

    Terms of Employment

    This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS (Omaha Public Schools) and that collective bargaining representative.


    Terms of employment are contingent upon:

    • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.
    • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
    • Verification of U.S (United States). Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
    • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
    • Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS.
