Job Summary:
Develops policies, directs, and coordinates human resources activities, including employment onboarding, compensation, benefits, employee relations along with recruitment and retention initiatives. Provides insightful and energized leadership and management of McPherson Hospital, Inc.’s Human Resources area. Plans, organizes, and directs all aspects of human Resources (HR) function at McPherson Hospital. As a member of Senior Leadership, provides an HR perspective on McPherson Hospital’s performance and the people implications of alternative business strategies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Directs, reviews, and supports HR department employees. Ensures compliance with all Federal and State laws and regulations. Ensures compliance with McPherson hospital, Inc. policies pertaining to human resources.
- Recruits and motivates a high performing HR team whose breadth and depth will accommodate McPherson Hospital’s growth. Develops individual and group competence through education and on-the job training opportunities. Develops and implements effective educational programs in human resources for subordinates and McPherson Hospital management. Inspires system thinking and drives accountability for operational and financial success down into the organization.
- Advances employee satisfaction and morale by listening and empowering employees. Shapes the direction of HR in ways that will raise the levels of employee satisfaction and meet the demands of McPherson Hospital and its employees. Creates strategies for improving employee satisfaction retention.
- Develops and implements strategies for employee recruitment in areas that are in high demand or difficult to fill, including positions where outside contract labor is used to fill vacancies.
- Understands the values and details of McPherson Hospital’s compensation and benefits offerings. Can explain benefit details to existing and new employees. Evaluates changing demographic, legal and technical developments and develops new programs responsive to such needs, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Develops an effective recruitment strategy and hiring process. Assists Department Directors in hiring quality personnel who fit well with McPherson Hospital culture.
- Develops and directs the implementation and administration of benefit plans, policies and programs affecting McPherson Hospital employees. Personally, handles elevated employee relations issues and consults with employment lawyers, as appropriate. Monitors and collaborates with the “pulse” of employee satisfaction/dissatisfaction and makes recommendations for maintaining a positive culture and productive work environment. Administers workers compensation claims and facilitates responses to unemployment claims.
- Oversees the creation and successful implementation of effective organizational development programs, including performance management, career development, succession planning and leadership development.
- Provides subject matter expertise to Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors, for strategies and initiatives for issues relating to HR functions and employee management. As a key member of Senior Leadership, participates in McPherson hospital strategic planning efforts, brainstorming and decision-making. Provides leadership on workforce management, helping identify and implement optimal staffing levels.
Department Specific Accountabilities:
- Finance: Prepares operating budgets for Human Resources to reflect an increase in value for McPherson hospital, Inc., and manages direct expenses utilized in assigned area relative to budget.
- Oversees the development and successful implementation of competitive and equitable compensation and benefits programs. Provides subject matter expertise to CEO and Boards on all compensation and employment contact matters. Ensures an optimal return on all rewards/related investments.
- Service: Routinely supports and participates in McPherson Hospital, Inc., sponsored educational communication and social activities; McPherson Hospital sponsored community benefit activities and McPherson Hospital fund development events. Contributes material to McPherson Hospital newsletters as appropriate.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or business Administration.
- 3-5 years’ experience preferred
Physical Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift 10-15 lbs on a regular basis. May require moderate physical exertion and/or physical strain.
