    Job Overview:

    We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our organization as an Executive Director. As the Executive Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations and strategic direction of the organization. This is a senior leadership position that requires strong business acumen, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to drive growth and success.

    Scope of Position

    Fairfield Community Development Corporation (“FCDC”) is a 501(c)(3) consisting of stakeholders from the Fairfield neighborhood and Marshall University, Cabell Hospital, the City of Huntington, the Huntington Housing Authority (“Institutional Partners”). FCDC’s vision is to enhance the physical, economic and social aspects of life for all residents of the Fairfield community and those who work there. This vision includes restoring the creation and maintenance of affordable housing and commercial real estate, education of residents, promotion of healthy lifestyles and increases the economic wealth of residents regardless of ability to pay, ethnicity, race gender, age and/or sexual orientation in the neighborhood of Fairfield in Huntington, West Virginia.

    In 2019, FCDC was formed to focus on four key areas of improvement for the Fairfield Area:

    • Health & Wellness
    • Education
    • Housing
    • Jobs & Economic Development
    • Safety

    It is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of leaders from the partner entities and stakeholders and community members.

    Position Summary

    The FCDC executive director is responsible for leading the effort to transform a historic neighborhood and elevate the quality of life for those who live, work, worship and play in the Fairfield neighborhood.

    The executive director leads and oversees the implementation of the FCDC’s goals and clearly articulates the plans and vision of FCDC to constituents and stakeholders. The position also leads the continuing collaboration and community-based neighborhood planning processes.

    The goals of FCDC are to:

    • Promote a healthy, culturally, and economically diverse community.
    • Be a catalyst for continuing and expanding redevelopment efforts in the area, and to promote and protect commercial and retail development within the Fairfield neighborhood.
    • Provide recreational opportunities for children and families.
    • Provide education, job training and employment opportunities; and to include stakeholders in major decisions throughout the redevelopment process.
    • Collaborate with neighborhood stakeholders and Institutional Partners in improving the quality of life in the Fairfield neighborhood.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Strategy Development and Execution

    • Lead FCDC’s urban redevelopment and community engagement efforts by implementing and executing the vision and the goals of the board of FCDC.
    • Collaborate with funding partners, community leaders, and developers.
    • Manage all aspects of project development including: planning, community relations, entitlements, market feasibility assessments, design, site acquisition, financing (both public and private), legal analysis, construction procurement and oversight, leasing, property and asset management and scheduling.
    • Grant writing, procurement, management, and implementation.

    Organizational and Community Leadership

    • Provide leadership for partners, Board, community leaders, constituents, and staff.
    • Build consensus within the community and among diverse stakeholder group; including civic and business leaders, to ensure successful project and program implementation.
    • Manage, train, coach and mentor staff; select and hire staff; develop and implement team goals and performance metrics.

    Board Relations

    • Develop and maintain strong Board relations.
    • Provide input to executive committee on Board development activity.
    • Communicate regularly with the Board regarding strategy, project timelines, project status and program updates.
    • Plan, prepare and attend Board meetings and strategy sessions and advise Board on organizational activities.
    • Drive organizational growth by creating a consensus among Board members, committees and staff for needed projects, strategic plans and/or organizational changes.
    • Provide the Board with feedback and make recommendations regarding the Organization’s staffing needs and structure.
    • Manage, develop and encourage input for Advisory Committees of the Board.

    Marketing and Public Relations

    • Clearly articulate the plans and vision of FCDC to constituents and stakeholders.
    • Provide conceptual oversight and oversee marketing strategy, implementation and communications.
    • Oversee public relations messaging and activities.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of marketing and public relations collateral, including websites and social media.
    • Represent FCDC at committee meetings, events, community meetings, professional functions and related meetings.
    • Represent FCDC at regional and national meetings.

    Finance and Budget

    • Direct and oversee the organization’s financial operation.
    • Develop, monitor and manage the approved budget and spending plan.
    • Provide input to the Board regarding the financial implications of strategic initiatives.
    • Ensures accurate budget and financial reporting to the Board.
    • Conduct long-range financial planning.

    Outreach & Development

    • Seek and guide opportunities to strengthen, build and share the organization’s programs, vision and work.
    • Identify grant opportunities to support the organization’s mission and oversee the grant application process.
    • Identify, cultivate and solicit potential funding partners and donors.
    • Monitor and report on grant and funding revenue streams.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, nonprofit management, public affairs, business administration or related field or equivalent knowledge/experience. Proven commitment to successful organizational leadership with responsibility for strategy, program implementation, development, communications and/or staff management.

    Desirable:

    Master’s Degree in related field; urban planning and community development experience. Experience in nonprofit management. Experience in obtaining and managing grants and nonprofit funding.

    Job Type: Full-time - Exempt, Will and Pleasure

    Schedule:

    • Primarily Monday-Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends, as may be required.
