Traffic Director leads and directs the traffic department to efficiently and safely move materials and products to designated destinations. Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize delivery costs. Being a Traffic Director evaluates and selects appropriate transportation carriers and routes. Resolves delivery issues for both internal and external customers. Additionally, Traffic Director monitors, analyzes, and reviews loss and damage claims and makes recommendations for improved safety. Oversees costs and processes to adhere to budgets. Ensures compliance with all DOT/OSHA guidelines. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Traffic Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Traffic Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Full-time position working in the Linn County Road Department. This position may under-fill as TCW2 pending
    qualifications of the successful applicant.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Perform the following Road Maintenance and related duties:

    • Truck Driver – Operates a single and double axle truck.
    • Installs and maintains road signs, pavement delineators and other traffic control devices in accordance with the
    Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
    • Operates and maintain sign manufacturing equipment and sheeting applicators.
    • Operates high pressure and/or high temperature equipment for the application of pavement markings.
    • Operate and maintain a variety of tools, related to signing and pavement marking.
    • Prepares sign layouts utilizing computer software; stencil layouts; keeps inventory of supplies, notifies
    supervisor if supplies are needed.
    • Operates and maintains pavement striper.
    • Regularly works outside of normally scheduled hours during summer months. Occasionally works outside
    normally schedules hours in fall, winter, and spring.
    • Other Duties as Assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Considerable knowledge of laws pertinent to traffic control and traffic flow; ability to operate computers
    and software generally and related to sign manufacture, data and inventory management, and other
    applications.
    • Considerable knowledge of the tools, methods, materials and equipment used in the construction,
    installation, and maintenance of traffic signs.
    • Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License Class A, Manual Transmission, Fifth Wheel, with Air Brake and
    Tanker Endorsement and an acceptable Driving Record
    • Graduation from high school or GED certificate, and two years’ experience in making highway signs
    including working with sign manufacturing equipment and sheeting applicators, working on a striping
    crew, or any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.


    COMPENSATION: Range: $4,748 - $5,219 per month
