    The Organization

    Founded in 2017, the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) is an independent nonprofit focused on career preparation and technical training for five industry sectors: Healthcare, Building Trades, Engineering and Manufacturing, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, and Digital Production.

    The Opportunity

    The New Orleans Career Center is adding a full-time Case Manager for the Adult Training program, serving primarily 18 - 24 year olds. Historically, a majority of adult trainees have been SNAP-eligible and disconnected from work and/or job training.

    The Case Manager will work with participants in NOCC’s adult training program. Successful training completion includes earning the aligned industry-based credential (IBC) and job placement with an industry partner, earning at least $16/hr with opportunities for advancement.

    The Case Manager is the expert trust-builder and problem-solver for each trainee as an individual. In deep collaboration with the instructor, program coordinator, and other staff, the Case Manager will provide intensive case management to program participants and alumni of NOCC’s adult training program. The Case Manager will regularly assess program participants’ needs and then deliver support and training aligned to those needs. Additionally, this role will follow program participants’ progress through the training program and the hiring/onboarding process and follow up with program participants once they start work with the employer partner. The Case Manager is responsible for building strong, professional relationships with program participants to help them utilize available opportunities and resources to find enduring success in life and work.

    Breakdown of time during first six months in the role:

    • 50% Direct participant support
    • 40% Staff collaboration
    • 10% Managing resources and referrals

    Key Responsibilities

    Conduct admissions and assessment

    • Provide recommendations on the readiness of applicants for the program through participation in the interview process
    • Assist in new trainee orientation, recruitment, onboarding
    • Manage the intake process and assess individual needs and barriers to participation
    • Assess and reassess referred participants for service needs, including but not limited to food insecurity, transportation, child care, housing stability, domestic violence, utility assistance, mental health support, financial assistance
    • Support all trainees in completing SNAP application if not already receiving benefits from SNAP
    • Support programming through the coordination of financial planning, mental health, and other community resource programming
    • Help participants sign up for bank accounts and assist them in obtaining IDs, school records, and other needed documents

    Execute and track participant support, counseling, and case management

    • Problem-solve support and communication to prepare each participant to move from NOCC programming to full-time work by assessing needs, identifying barriers, and making an individualized action plan in partnership with the participant and in coordination with the program team
    • Provide mental health referrals and trauma-informed support to all participants. Model and assist other staff in using trauma-informed approaches
    • Plan and execute group interventions and training (emotion regulation, social skills, etc.)
    • Provide prevention/intervention services to participants including, but not limited to:
    • Develop and implement individual trainee support plans
    • Chart participant’s progress and activity in an electronic database to collect and record data for program evaluation (Efforts to Outcomes and/or Google Sheets)
    • Serve as a liaison between participants and community resources
    • Be available to respond to crises

    Support technical training and manage foundational skills training

    • Work in tandem with instructor and coordinator to ensure trainee success in training and work
    • Collaborate closely with instructors and other staff to problem-solve trainee challenges as needed.
    • Support instructors to respond to group trainee needs, make decisions regarding trainee support and participation, and execute individualized support plans for trainees as needed
    • Support coordinators in communicating and executing trainee logistics, as needed.
    • Participate in team meetings to identify participant needs in alignment with short-term and long-term goals and outcomes
    • Plan and coordinate soft skills training in partnership with the program team that builds on technical training to enable success after training in their new job with the employer

    Collaborate with the Adult Training Team, NOCC Staff, and External Stakeholders

    • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with various partners, including employer partners, enrollment referral partners, service providers, and community-based organizations in alignment with NOCC and program strategy.
    • Speak to trainees' experiences and needs in and outside the classroom to support NOCC-wide planning and strategy. Make recommendations for process and policy improvements.
    • Collaborate deeply with the NOCC staff and your supervisor to set goals, add capacity, and align efforts to enduring trainee success and NOCC-wide outcomes
    • Engage fully in continuing professional development and staff meetings. Make suggestions to your supervisor for further development
    • Proctor certification exams and serve as a substitute as needed

    Reporting Requirements

    • Complete intake and initial coaching touchpoint forms within the first two weeks of each cohort
    • Enter individual touchpoints at least weekly for each trainee into the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database and SNAP Education and Training case management application. Document all participant touchpoints
    • Fulfill data requests and reports requested by the supervisor, data manager, grants manager, or other organization leader by the described deadline via ETO database, Google Sheets trackers, and other data collection (qualitative and quantitative)
    • Enter attendance daily in the first 15 minutes of class and report results and trends to the program lead weekly
    • Provide immediate updates on crisis management to the program lead and report weekly trends and needs of program participants
    • Report certification and job placement results on the tracker and in the database within 48 hours

    This position reports directly to the Lead Case Manager.

    Qualifications

    • Passionate and skilled in building and maintaining trusting relationships with young people, especially opportunity youth and people who are currently unemployed or underemployed.
    • Record of success in working independently and effectively with multiple tasks that demand timeline management and communication with various stakeholders
    • Aware of impacts on participants related to compliance with relevant employer policies and state requirements
    • Working knowledge of issues facing community members and community resources for referrals
    • Self-sufficiency with using a computer and Google Workspace apps, including Docs, Sheets, Gmail, and Google Calendar.
    • Willingness to learn new apps, technology, and platforms to execute key responsibilities.
    • An existing network with community service organizations in New Orleans is preferred
    • Skills and experience (or a degree) in social work is preferred
    • Open to working an alternative schedule outside of typical business hours, e.g., many adult training programs will run 12:00 pm - 7:30 pm

    Compensation and Benefits

    Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.     Salary Range $50,000 - $65,000
