Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Transportation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Job Description: Transportation Manager
    Summary:
    In the Transportation Manager position, you will be the leader for company-wide daily logistics operations. You will be responsible for ensuring execution of daily outbound shipments to customers in a manner that creates safe and secure work environment and exceeds customer expectations for professional foodservice delivery. You will directly supervise Delivery Drivers and report to the Transportation Director at our Louisa, KY location. You will be an essential part of our team that has been servicing customers and delivering fine foods since 1942.
    Responsibilities:
    • Direct the daily work of Delivery Drivers, including employee performance, customer service, safety, and appearance.
    • Ensure Delivery Driver and Company compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and ensure electronic logs are kept current and accurate.
    • Execute daily route planning, Delivery Driver, and equipment scheduling in a manner that meets established Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and ensures Sales/customer satisfaction goals are met.
    • Communicate daily with sales and operations team members to ensure customer service quality standards are maintained.
    • Facilitate associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings; facilitate on-going interaction; keep open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitor associate morale; and submit and respond to ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement.
    • Work with operations management and sales team to maintain and create cost-effective routes that provide quality customer service.
    • Work with customers and sales team members, including visiting customer locations, to address issues and assess delivery difficulty.
    • Use and update productivity and routing software systems daily.
    • Ensure effective and efficient use of company devices, including ELD, proof of delivery, and camera equipment.
    • Monitor company equipment to ensure it is kept in satisfactory working condition. Coordinate required repairs with proper departments as necessary.
    • Provide training to new Transportation employees on company policies and procedures, including current and new company processes, initiatives, routes, and equipment.
    • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and retention of Transportation employees.
    • Administer regular Driver training to ensure Driver and equipment safety.
    • Conduct Driver and route audits to provide coaching and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct accident investigation as needed.
    • Follow and enforce transportation policies, food/personal safety regulations, and company policies and procedures for personnel.
    • Ensure conformance with company standards for professional appearance, conduct, and training requirements.
    • Support planning and execution for regular employee training and safety meetings.
    • Conduct and execute continuous improvement efforts with the Transportation department.
    • Perform management functions of staff selection, development, coaching, discipline, performance reviews and/or terminations.
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
    Education and Experience:
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
    • Successful experience interpreting federal, state, and local commercial driving regulations.
    • Experience directly supervising personnel, desired but not a requirement.
    • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License, preferred but not a requirement
    • At least 3 years commercial driving experience preferred.
    • At least 3 years foodservice operations experience preferred.
    • Must complete a Brown Foodservice driving and occupational safety program.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must know, adhere to, and enforce Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
    • Knowledge of customer service principles and quality standards.
    • Ability to use a computer, business software, and new applications/proprietary software.
    • Be familiar with Microsoft Office or comparable applications, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Ability to perform repetitive lifting of 50 lbs.
    • Ability to operate a pallet jack, electric walkie, and/or forklift.
    • Ability to use a dolly or hand truck in heavy lifting and shifting loads on wet, dry, icy, bumpy, or uneven terrain with frequent curbs and obstructions.
    • Be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, squat, and stoop to accomplish the essential job functions.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to demonstrate basic math skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with multiple levels of organization.
