About the Position: Urban Forestry Coordinator

Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) About the Position:

GWL seeks applicants for a newly created position to support the Green Streets Program. This is a full-time exempt position that will report to the Project Director. The Urban Forestry Coordinator will be responsible for outreach, tree planting and stewardship to advance the organization’s goals of increasing tree canopy cover and to educate private and public landowners about proper tree selection, care and maintenance.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist in the implementation of urban forestry activities on both public and private property, including conducting site visits to locate trees, coordinating and preparing plans, and data entry on planting and stewardship activities.

• Provides technical advice to landowners about proper tree selection and maintenance.

• Gathers and disseminates information concerning Groundwork’s programs by correspondence, telephone, personal contact, and through public education programs.

• Prepares or develops reports.

• Maintains various logs and records relating to tree planting location and management; prepares, written reports as required; attends meetings and exhibits at events, as needed.

• Maintains trees GWL has planted for two or more years each; including, but not limited to, watering, pruning, staking, mulching, and soil care.

• Monitoring survivability of trees planted, working towards the goal of 80% survival rate.

• Establishing and implementing a community tree stewardship strategy to advance the long-term care of trees and improve public perception, community ownership, and care of trees.

Qualifications:

• Must share the values and vision of Groundwork Lawrence.

• Bilingual in English/Spanish; Strong verbal and written translation skills a plus.

• Candidate must have at least three years of outreach experience and excellent references.

• Demonstrated outstanding organizational skills along with strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

• Ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines and to handle multiple tasks.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

• Candidate must be a self-starter and work well independently, as well as accept supervision.

• Candidate must be experienced working in multi-cultural settings.

• Candidate must be reliable and flexible and able to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.

• Basic computer skills: iPad, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Experience with desktop publishing and website maintenance is a plus.

• Interest in arboriculture is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
