    SUMMARY

    Under direct supervision of the Chief Water Plant Operator, performs any duties required to operate and maintain the water pumping stations, water treatment plants, water reservoirs, metering stations, collect distribution samples and participates in related tasks as needed. Assists in water operations and maintenance, and other duties as assigned.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES as ASSIGNED
    include the following:

    • Under supervision and training, be assigned to properly operating and maintaining water pump stations, treatment plants, master metering stations, and reservoirs.
    • Performs repairs on pumps, motors, controls, vehicles, lawnmowers, plant facilities, reservoirs, and related equipment.
    • Ability to be on call duty, work overtime, weekends, and Holidays, both scheduled and unscheduled as required.
    • Performs and/or assists in performing laboratory analysis, sampling, monitoring, calculations, and calibration. Reads recorder readings, performs general duties such as painting, mowing and brush hogging, cleaning, and general maintenance.
    • Performs basic computer operations per SCADA operations and record keeping.
    • Assist coworkers to perform necessary functions.
    • Perform related tasks as assigned by the Chief Water Plant Operator or his delegated representative, Water/wastewater Superintendent, and/or Director.
    • Responsible for operating in accordance with Local, State, Federal Regulations, and POA Policies and Procedures, ADH Rules and Regulations.
    • Follow safety compliance policies and procedures and assist coworkers relating to overall job safety compliance.
    • Responsible for follow up of actions and ongoing personal development.
    • Required to work after hours and weekends when necessary.
    • Operations & Maintenance, Record Keeping, and Reporting related knowledge of water pumps, motors, reservoirs, tanks, water treatment plant operations.
    • Skill in sampling, monitoring, and analysis and skill in safety precautions.
    • Learn the system being served by plant.
    • Perform rounds on all shifts, making sure all parts of the plant are functioning properly.
    • Obtain skills in sampling, monitoring, and analysis and skill in safety precautions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Regular attendance is required.


    QUALIFICATIONS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and make progressive efforts to acquire higher skill sets and licensure in Water Plant Operations. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions and work nights, weekends and holidays if needed.

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must be able to be reached and be available for emergency call out.
    • Must have transportation to and from work.


    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).


    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Math skills to include the ability to use formulas related to volumes, areas, percent, dosages, and time. Ability to use American weight measurement as well as metric.


    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding. Able to carry out multiple and semi-complex instruction. Ability to deal with standard as well as occasional nontypical situations. Ability and desire to learn.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    • Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
    • Must have or be able to obtain an Arkansas Grade I Water Treatment Operator License within a year.

    Ability to operate and maintain; vehicles, equipment, and tools to perform Utility O&M functions and duties, use a push mower, riding mower, tractor, and carry weed eater for extended distance proficiently, safely, and responsibly. The ability to lift minimum of 35 lbs. lawnmower into truck.
