    Northern Star Scouting seeks an IT Systems and Web Specialist to manage and maintain the technology infrastructure of our organization. This role involves setting up, trouble shooting, and optimizing both hardware and software systems. Additionally, this position ensures that web applications and websites are functional, secure and user-friendly.

    This individual will work and collaborate with volunteers, staff and outside resources to support systems and processes to maintain and improve our operations. The successful candidate will have the capacity to seek and utilize new learning, as well as to balance between maintaining current technology functions and innovative solutions.

    This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting annual pay range of $58,000 - $70,000, DOQ. The position is based at our Base Camp location, near Fort Snelling and the MSP Airport.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (KEY FUNCTIONS)

    • Technology Leader
      • Drives the technology priorities of the organization.
      • Part of the IT team reviewing annual and ongoing IT project lists.
      • Drives developing IT policies and procedures and provide training to staff on new technologies.
      • Provides IT support to customers through help desk tickets and increase responsiveness and implement permanent resolution of issues by identifying trends in service histories.
      • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, security, and network problems.
    • Project Leader
      • Websites and domains - hosting, security, and updates
      • IT support for facilities including building/room access control, key cards, alarms, fire systems, security cameras/systems, and audio visuals.
      • Office Phones.
    • Process Improvement
      • Culture of continuous improvement related to processes and documentation for the department.
      • Works in partnership with IT Team to analyze technological tools and innovations for the organization.


    SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Carries out other responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Staff leader or Scout Executive.
    • Upholds council/BSA policies and present a positive, professional attitude and image in the workplace and while attending official functions in the community. Represents Scouting in the community, promoting awareness and understanding of Scouting.
    • In all aspects of the position, develops systems and solves problems that will improve operations and provide quality customer service. Works to implement procedures to enhance the accuracy, quality and flow of information between staff members and volunteers.
    • Part of the IT team giving leadership to the volunteer IT Committee and staff Department IT Champions.


    QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION

    • Education and work experience: bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of duration and experience. Knowledge of multiple software applications and operating systems, including, but not limited to: Microsoft Operating Systems, Networking protocols, Microsoft SQL, virtualization, Agile principles is desirable; knowledge of Scouting is helpful; requires commitment to the mission/aims/methods of Scouting.
    • Interpersonal skills: excellent written and verbal communication with customers, with the ability to instruct non-technical users, problem-solving skills; must be a strong team player.
    • Confidentiality: must be able to maintain confidentiality of all information dealing with council.
    • Work mode: be able to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously; must be able to take initiative, and also play both leading and supporting roles; must be able to manage projects from conception to implementation; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure; aptitude for creative and alternative solutions; strong desire to learn, demonstrating independent initiative in seeking new knowledge. Position may have frequent interruptions and requires ability to move from project to project at a moment's notice while maintaining a positive attitude. Must be detail-oriented and accurate.
    • Technology/software: must be able to adapt to changing technology and methods, be a life-long learner utilizing formal training and being self-taught; knowledge of JavaScript, C#, .NET, MS Office 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Windows desirable.
    • Work schedule: must be able to work outside of normal business hours when needed, including some early mornings, evenings and weekends as demanded by workload; must be able to maintain regular attendance.
    • Physical requirements: must be able to sit and work at a computer keyboard and be able to perform repetitive and stretching motions; occasional heavy lifting up to 40 pounds of boxes and equipment will be required; will need to occasionally drive personal vehicle for council business (to be reimbursed for mileage at current IRS-approved rate).
