Being a Webmaster maintains and administers websites by screening content for consistency and accuracy. Maintains related hardware and software, installs upgrades, and resolves system errors as they arise. Additionally, Webmaster ensures the website is properly integrated with related computer systems and back-end processes. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Webmaster occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     THE COLLEGE

    Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble S’Klallam.

    The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the College’s service district. The College is home to Longhouse of Learning. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/S’Klallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway.     THE POSITION

    Responsible for development and maintenance of the institution’s website and creation and management of the site’s content. Also responsible for selection and implementation of web tools and resolution of performance issues such as speed of access. Monitors website use and trends. Acts as project manager for major projects relating to the college website. This position oversees digital media projects, including managing and maintaining the content on the main college website and other college websites; managing and maintaining marketing photography and videography; and ensuring continuity, accuracy and branding standards across college websites and promotional videos and photos.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Web Design

    • Act as Project Manager for web redesigns
    • Coordinate with vendors that relate to web architecture, design, or strategy
    • Own the website content strategy, quality, and user experience
    • Provide oversight to ensure the website adheres to PC’s brand, value proposition, messaging hierarchy, style guide, experience design standards, voice, and tone and that adheres to accessibility compliance and SEO practices
    • Partner with other marketing staff to edit and publish content that tells the PC story and enhances the brand image; create and design visually appealing public facing web properties; skin and brand third party integrations
    • Oversee and continually improve content standards and the user experience; identify new tactics based on current best practices and current design trends
    • Maintain critical public information across the Peninsula College website
    • Prioritize featured content based on user needs and messaging priorities
    • Vet and qualify the ripple effect of web changes and requests to other associated applications; fulfill requests for content updates and additions
    • Collaborate with website back-end experts from Information Technology Services on maintaining technical and functional websites and applications
    • Answer help desk requests related to the frontend web assets
    • Guide multiple contributors of varying skill levels and set content guidelines for consistency across departments
    • Actively participate in all UI/IX decisions and provide solutions to issues and suggestions for improvement.
    • Foster healthy cross-campus relationships and conduct training sessions in collaboration with Web Services/IT for new content creators/editors
    • Manage the Drupal Content Management System and will be responsible for front-end development.
    • including security, accessibility, logistical content, system development, user training, help desk requests, etc.
    • Continually monitor analytics and key performance indicators to assure a positive user experience and create strategies to address gaps

    Photography/Videography

    • Continually assess the college’s needs for marketing photography and videography
    • Coordinate marketing photo and video shoots in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications staff and various departments
    • Shoot and edit marketing photography and videography that adheres to PC's brand, value proposition, messaging hierarchy, style guide, experience design standards, voice, and tone
    • Update and maintain the marketing department’s photography and videography database, including organize the folder structure and ensure photos are kept up to date, while archiving old photos
    • Coordinate photo and video shoots with internal staff photographer or contracted photographer as required

    Other Duties

    • Be self-directed, with guidance from the Director of Marketing and Communications
    • Produce graphics for college social media sites
    • Serve on college committees
    • May supervise interns and/or Work-Study students; assigns tasks and provides direction
    • May supervise staff
    • Assist with related duties or special projects as assigned

    Duties of the position require knowledge and experience:

    • Knowledge of a mix of coding in PHP, HTML, CSS and Java Script.
    • Experience in designing responsive websites.
    • Ability to create custom Drupal modules and strong troubleshooting skills to fix bugs.
    • Ability to understand CSS changes to maintain a consistent style across platforms and browsers
    • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
    • Knowledge of methods and techniques of web design, photography and videography; effective application of materials and media; high degree of knowledge of computer graphic equipment, technical and peripherals (digital cameras);
    • Very strong demonstrated ability for organization, attention to detail, prioritizing, and managing multiple deadlines; strong problem-solving skills;
    • Understanding of practical applications of web design and digital media, and aids in determining the most appropriate methods and techniques of designing and producing web content targeted toward a specific audience;
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills;
    • Collaborate successfully with colleagues, community; able to team-build, consensus-build and earn trust of co-workers.

    Duties of the position require the ability to:

    • Effectively handle a wide range of technical details
    • High degree of demonstrated experience with web design, content management, and digital media
    • Experience using Drupal and Wordpress to develop and update websites
    • Use Microsoft Office applications
    • Take and edit digital photography and videography
    • Stay current with new web content and design technologies and developments, recommend upgrades to department
    • Self-motivated, adaptable, able to learn new techniques, software and systems
    • Perform high level work under pressure of tight timelines and balance multiple projects
    • Work long periods of time at computers
    • Provide excellent customer service

    Physical and working environment:

    • Work is typically performed in an office which requires sitting, keyboarding, or standing for extended periods of time
    • Ability to use computers and office equipment is essential
    • Repetitive arm, hand and finger movement
    • Ability to work with frequent interactions and interruptions
    • Work under pressure and prioritize competing demands
    • Attend meetings both on campus and other off-site locations
    • Ability to read printed materials and computer screen
    • Ability to lift up to ten pounds
    • Ability to communicate in English both in person and through other appropriate means

    Required work schedule:

    • 40 hours per week during normal business hours.

    Required education or certificates:

    • Bachelor’s degree in web design or closely allied field AND minimum of three years of professional experience as a web or digital media designer in marketing, promotion or advertising fields, and demonstrated ability to design websites and manage web content; OR equivalent education/experience.

    EMPLOYMENT PAY AND BENEFITS INFORMATION

    • Full-Time Exempt position.
    • Annual Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 (DOE)
    • Anticipated starting monthly salary: $6,250.00 - $6,666.00

    Full Time Employee Benefits:

Peninsula College contributes $1,145 per month towards the cost of the Washington State employee insurance programs. The college also supports professional development.

    • Full-time employees are eligible to apply and participate in the Peninsula College Employee Tuition Program.
    • Sick leave accrual is 8 hours per month.
    • Vacation Leave accrual is 16 hours per month.
