Yard Jockey jobs in Florida
Yard Jockey operates gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to loading docks to be unloaded. Backs trailer to loading docks, performs safety checks to secure trailer, opens bay doors, and assists dock workers in loading/unloading trailer. Being a Yard Jockey maintains radio or telephone contact with dispatcher to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in scheduled delivery or pick up. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Yard Jockey requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Yard Jockey works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Yard Jockey typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Job Summary:
The Yard Jockey Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers between yard and warehouse dock doors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate mule to move cargo trailer
- Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance to maintain operation of mule
- Ability to read and interpret operating and procedural manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions
- Able to receive, understand, and execute instructions via radio to accommodate logistical needs
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) class A with clean record
- 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience
- Clean MVR
- Ability to meet all state and Federal DOT regulations
- Must be able to follow all company guidelines
- Must pass all drug/alcohol screenings
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to operate an electric pallet jack, manual pallet jack, two-wheel hand truck
- Ability to work independently with little supervision in a team environment
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Nearly all work is performed outdoors; must be able to perform duties in all weather conditions
- Use repetitive motions, using upper and lower extremities, mount and dismount equipment
- The position may require the driver to sit for prolonged periods of time while operating the mule
